Last one. A little blurry of the wing itself, but perhaps still useful.

Jeff,

Great images! I thought the wing was partially cast.
Have to rethink that thought process - huh? How heavy????
Looks like a sheet metal wonder from your shots. Which
DH car were these taken from? Where was that show?

John's original Glacier Blue w/black wing scheme looks
great! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif However, this chrome plate wing really gets
your attention, doesn't it? Lastly, the chrome plating on
the DH emblems throws me for a loop. I thought they were
brushed aluminum, not chrome plated. What a great topic
this has turned out to be.

Are any of these DH cars going to be at the reunion?

From what I am hearing there will be several DH cars at SCR8. 8-10, maybe more. Very well could be the largest gathering of DH cars ever. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

And rumor has it, several will be racing on Friday. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Hey Brian,

Can you elaborate on the use of the chrome plated DH
emblems on the Fathom Green Camaro with the chromed wing?
The other DH emblems I've seen as well as the one I own
are brushed aluminum. What's the story here? Were these
originally chromed? I'm confused. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

Re: Clarification on Dick Harrell 69 Camaro's

The emblems are exact to the ones on the car when new, Bill had tons of pictures. The wing is aluminum and is rivited together. We took the wing apart and polished it. I don't think a day went by after the car was done we didn't polish the wing. It looked cool as can be in person. I on the other hand have never seen a brushed looking DH emblem. As far as I can tell only the late 69 cars had them. The early cars used a trophy style plate rivited to the body...BKH

Those AWESOME pictures Jeff posted are from Bill Ogle's DH Camaro, which was talked about earlier in the thread...and they were taken while the car was at SCR5...

I have a couple original DH emblems, they are chrome plated. I have never seen a brushed aluminum one... are you sure its not just worn?... or is a brushed aluminum one something else I need to start digging for? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

I can't say I ever
saw that paint scheme before. Was it stock?

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly one of the questions I had asked and never got an answer to. You will notice that the hood and side stripe is nearly the exact same scheme as on Steve Sandlin's original paint 70 DH Camaro. It was previously stated from a reliable source that because of the spoiler this car was probably a late August 69 car. Maybe this was the only 69 to get this paint scheme? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
https://www.yenko.net/reunion/SCR7999996.JPG

[/ QUOTE ]

My guess is that is Dick Harrells signature paint scheme.. The same stripe was on the DH Vega too as well as many of his race cars.

Marlin, you sure thats a DH Vega and not just a stripe styled after a DH one? I think I have a pic of the same car and could find no Dick Harrell markings on the car anywhere, just the familiar DH stripe layout.

Re: Clarification on Dick Harrell 69 Camaro's

With Kelsey Strippers on it, it would be more convincing as a DH car, and i would have to say I agree Steve, it probably is a DH car. Not too many people ran those at the drags besides Harrell. Now slot mags, thats a different story!

Joe,

In response to your question about the DH emblem, I got one
two weeks ago through ebay that appears to be new. I was
told buy the seller that these are exactly the way they
were done back in the day. I think it came from DH itself.

I can assure my emblem is brushed aluminum and not polished
at all. So, I'm confused now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Nuch: not sure if you saw the post, but I posted pictures of 2 different *original* DH emblems on page 3, and they are most definitely chrome...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Clarification on Dick Harrell 69 Camaro's

The emblems on the 69 are supposed to be chrome with a textured blue background. They are made out of a cast pot aluminum and the posts on the back are very fragile. There is a difference from the ones that I've seen re-popped.

Re: Clarification on Dick Harrell 69 Camaro's

Hi Rob,

I did see your images - THANKS! That leads me to my state
of confusion. The emblem I bought is definitely brushed
aluminum ( not chrome ) and it also does not follow the
color scheme of those on your images. I don't know how to
post an image, so here is the ebay item #: 7974399171

I bought the same emblem off ebay two weeks ago. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Rob,

I understood your point. Let me clarify a little.

The emblem I got evidently came from DH via. ebay. They
informed me that the emblem is exactly as they were "back
in the day". Two men say they're Jesus, one of them must
be wrong! I'll go with your posted images. I think I got
an incorrect repop. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Jeff,

Your pictoral presentation says it all! My emblem is way
off!!! Guess I go back to the beginning looking for an
original emblem - huh? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Could I convince one of you guys to lend me an original
emblem so I can perform a 3D laser scan on it to capture
the actual geometry? Please??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Steve

LVCamaro 05-20-2005 03:58 AM

Re: Clarification on Dick Harrell 69 Camaro's

Is that a "period" at the end of HARRELL, or some feeble attempt at the "trademark" logo? Nobody trying to clone the Dick Harrell crest would be silly enough to put a "period" at the end...would they??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

nuch...I doubt anyone here would be interested in supplying you, or anyone else, a REAL DH crest/badge for your 3D laser copy effort. The DH crest/badge is a propriatary product, to my understanding, and trademark infringement is serious business. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif
