There was discussion awhile back as to when the Yenko "shield" logo was created... the back of this photo reads "Daytona 67". Note the Yenko logo on the side of the car.

I've got to ask, whose telegram is that asking for $5,000 because they are in jail? It's amazing that stuff like this has survived.

I have a few sources that would most likely know, and I plan to talk to them and review some of these things with them to get more insight in regards to what it all means... All I can say with certainty is that it had to be someone close to Don, not only to ask for 5 grand, which would have been a very large sum of cash in 1971, but also that he kept the original Western Union telegram in his files for all those years after. If only this stuff could talk! |
Re: Original Yenko Treasures unearthed!
...Great Find...I'm sure "Don Yenko" himself is proud that you were the one to come across this info....
...He knew you would be the one to display this info correctly....WAY TO GO!!! ...It's all about KARMA!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

Could have been Kasey... I really don't know. Same as all of you, I'm looking at and studying all these photographs for the first time and trying to gain as much knowledge from them as I can.

Re: Original Yenko Treasures unearthed!
I'm pretty sure all American entries into SCCA racing had to be blue or white...hence the color of his Corvette racecars and subsequent Stinger Corvairs. It does look nice though...and has become synonymous with road racing.

Re: Original Yenko Treasures unearthed!
Do not see Don Yenko listed as a driver..they usually list the back up drivers as well. But it doesn't mean that he positivley was not... Gulstrand and Bondurant were listed as the drivers

Gulstrand and Bondurant were listed as the drivers ................. YOU MAY BE RIGHT, BUT I THINK THAT WHEN DON YENKO WENT WITH DICK HARRELL TO BUILD 22 , 427 CAMARO'S UNDER THE YENKO NAME IN APRIL 1967, INSTEAD OF THE DANA 427'S FROM THERE DEC. 1966 AD, WHICH REFLECTED THAT EACH DEALER WOULD SALE PARTS, AND CARS AT EITHER DEALERSHIP , THAT CHANGED THE LE MANS TEAM DEAL WHICH WAS IN JUNE 1967, ANYBODY THAT KNOW'S THE REAL STORY, PLEASE LET US ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, THANKS KASEY |
