My memory is as bad as yours. Yes, back in 93 or 94 it was piloted by a pro at one of the major SCCA events as my co-driver. If I recall correctly, the name Roger Johnson, maybe??? He had connections to BFG because he basically snapped his finders and new tires would appear, in a size that BFG didnt really make, yet. (Update: yup, it was Roger Johnson, the famous Corvette racer:) http://www.rogues-racing.com/spirt-of-the-sport-roger-e-johnson/. See question #4 This car was the first Viper to show up on any SCCA course as they were so new, no one was crazy enough to play with one...except me, I guess. At the time, the Vipers were not even classed by SCCA yet, so it was placed in the A-Street Prepared (ASP) class. I let Randy Pobst drive the car at a SCCA SOLO II event in Florida in 1994. His first time behind the wheel, he beat my best time by a half a second. (a very large gap on a short autocross course) I remember Randy signing off on my SCCA license. His comment was "He drives rather conservatively, shouldn't crash much." Here's the rest of the story: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...per#Post145381 |

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Was that Cuda Greg Jacksons car? Remember something about finding the original engine in England years ago. Ron...

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Craig Jackson's was the purple 1970, not the purple 1971. The engine in England was for his 1970.

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Shady past of 71 FC7 Hemi Cuda.
The story goes, apparently the car was stolen and stripped in 1974 and put through insurance, whomever the owner was got the insurance money and went on with his life, but the car never got crushed (although some say it did). Fast forward 25 years and apparently someone found a purple Cuda door, with the original VIN sticker on it stating it was from one of the ultra rare 71 Hemicuda convertibles. A few phone calls were apparently made, someone got a huge finders fee for the door and the hunt was on for more possible remnants of the sacred beast. The story goes blank again but apparently this is around the time that the front cowl was found under some brush inside an Indian reserve in Southern BC. The story goes on to say that they found its inner fender and outer fender on another ‘Cuda, yet you can clearly see the cowl-hulk still has both of its inner fenders. From there, the parts and pieces were taken and the car was “restored” (had the parts put on another Cuda convertible body and called it real). They had reproduction VIN and fender tags made for it, a date-coded warranty block 426 Hemi engine was installed and the car crossing the auction block is essentially what they ended up with. Moparites are hopeful that photos of the “restoration” will be shown when it crosses the auction block and that hopefully someone will spill more details about its questionable – and colorful past. |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
