Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Yep, I saw it.
It just kills me that Butler thinks there isn't a market. There isn't a market because there isn't any supply!!!! There is plenty of demand for Pontiac parts, if RAV stuff was available there would be a market. When you think inside the box, you stay in the box. Vision and capital, I've got the vision. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Butler probably sees the Indian Adventures block and the aftermarket aluminum heads as the biggest competition out there for a project like this. He is probably correct though, he would need to sell thousands of units to pay for the tooling and see a reasonable ROI. I believe Butler makes an aluminum Pontiac block as well as repro RA IV intakes. Kinda makes you wish Ponchos were as popular as Chevys. If we had the production numbers that Chevy had your wish might just come true.

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
When people are paying $18,000 roughly for a set a exhaust manifolds, you wouldn't have to sell as many to make it a financial success.
I feel the RAV market is a sleeping giant, just a matter of some one willing to take a risk. |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
the problem besides the heads IS a intake, they really need a single plane intake, cams, and headers. The V project is for deep pockets only as EVERY thing is expensive.Tom

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Sorry to get off topic Tom, but congratulations on your 69 Trans Am in the Pontiac magazine. I went to buy it after perusing in the store, and the last issue was gone. Whay don't you post some pics for us!

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
But it won't be so expensive if people start making the parts.
Example: The exhaust manifolds, Ramair would scan (and not hurt) the A logs or long branch. Then produce low volume molds to reduce cost, I roughly figure for under $30,000 you could have a couple of dozen sets of one type. If one set of the 3 known originals went for over half that, it seems feasible to me. Lets say for discussion you could produce 30 sets of A for $12,000 mold and design, then 30 sets production cost $400 each total 12,000. If custom headers are $1000, then a set of cast should go easy for $1000. $24,000 total cost and $30,000 gross sales equal $6,000 profit. There are possibly enough A bodies on the road with V and people sitting on a few more sets of heads because you can't get the other parts (intakes/manifolds), it would be very feasible to think you could sell 30 sets. Now say some one produced some heads, maybe 200 sets. Instant supply is produced to create demand, for intakes and manifolds. I can see some one selling 200 sets of RAV aluminum, if they were in the 2 to 4 thousand range. I just spent $3,500 on E's and would have much rather spent $5,000 on aluminum V, and I would have done it. This isn't the last motor I will build, and I am far from rich. |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Steve, reg. mfg profit is 80 percent on the sell. Also no way to sell 200 sets of RA V heads at 2500.I want it as bad as the next guy but there will be no return on investment.Remember there will be bad castings, bad machine work.NFW to make it a money maker. Will be a project of love.IMHO,Tom

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Do we have any sales figures on the E heads? Reason being, I would have done 10 back flips and kissed Rosanne to have V instead of E. I'm sure several others are like me.
As for the dollar figures, I was just throwing some general numbers around. It might actually be much cheaper, Paul at RA said $12,000 was a high starting point and low volume molds could possibly reduce cost. Designing the molds is the only true unique expense, casting the parts would be the same as there regular line. Since they sell D port A at $299 (I think), their cost is probably $75 or so. It all sounds very possible to me. |

I don't want to hijack this thread, but you guys seem like you could give me some advice on a car I have.
A couple of years ago, I bought an ex-IHRA B-Modified production drag car. It was a 68 Firebird. It was built in the early 70s and campaigned for a few years. It was then mothballed and was later brought out in the 90s as a bracket car. A photo is attached. I bought the car several years ago with the intent of Pro-streeting it and doing a little bracket racing. I don't have time, and now need to sell it to make space for another car I'm buying. It seems like a piece of history, but I'm not sure where the best place to sell it is, nor what it's worth. I posted on the PY forum, but didn't get much feedback. Rather than put a bunch of information in this forum, here's the link to the PY forum for more details. I'd appreciate your thoughts. http://forums.performanceyears.com/e...mp;m=530106299 |
