Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Jim Mattison's statement here in the Yenko thread was several years after Gary had first talked to him about the Silver Judge. While Jim and I were talking in private, he told me that he did not realize the Judge being talked about in this thread was Gary's Judge until after I had mentioned Gary's name in an email. Not that it makes any difference to Mattison's statement, because in fact it would appear without a doubt that no production line cars received V motors. I think we have all come to agree on that, I know I have.
To depart from the Knafel debate, here are some engineering truths and strong possibilities. Please remember that there was for fact; according to several Pontiac Engineers, 1 Black 70 GTO that had a V installed in Engineering. The car was used as a plant get around car. The Marty Schorr interview in which he claims several V cars to be running around Milford. Then there is Tom Goad’s 69 TA, it is highly probable engineering installed that motor too. Over on Performance Years board some one called Sweetmuscle has made an interesting post. Most people over on PY go stealth on their ID’s, so I have no clue who it is, but it would appear to be legitimate as posted. JUDGE RAM AIR IV RACE CARS This is not related to the Knafel or V issue, but it helps validate up a point that Tom Nell just talked about in his recent HPP interview. Tom revealed that they did help drag racers out the back door. Tom was heavily involved in the V program with Jeff Young and Herb Adams. |

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
You would be incorrect about JIm M not knowing that the posts were about Gary's car. Just contacted him via e-mail the other day he knows all about it. I think he thinks we are all RAV stupid.

Dajudge
I have to apologize and admit my error. I was talking to Jim via email in September of 2003 because of the Goatfinder's posting in his periodical, it was during those emails that he told me he didn't know it was Gary's car until several emails in September. This Yenko thread was started in November 2003. It was after my September discussions with Jim that he agreed to do his best to look into the matter for a solid answer if I wouldn't send out anymore loose worded letters to magazine publishers. |
Apology
I would like to extend forth and apology to the Schultz for any and all misconceptions and ill feelings that developed as a result of the heated debate that took place two years ago concerning the Knafel car.
Rita took the first step, and I'll take the second. I never had any hard feelings but things were left a little on edge from all that took place two years ago, I believe we both came to a peaceful resolve. I also offer an apology to anyone that believed I was in anyway trying to cause doubt about their Bobcat car; I can assure anyone that thought this, I was never trying to attack the car and/or Bill an Rita. I do believe the car was beautifully restored, and is an invaluable piece of Pontiac history. |
Re: Apology
After half a decade I would like to make some reflections on this car situation.
I don't know if Mike Guarise still owns the white one but he did at the time and Gary Daniels still owns the silver one. I did not back read this thread to refresh myself on what all has been said but this is my personal opinion on the cars and I don't foresee any new evidence ever coming forward to change things. We all know Mr. Knafel claimed they got these from Engineering with RAV's in them. According to Arlen Vanke they had the motors in it that they received from the factory. He said it went to engineering before it was shipped to Knafel. Arlen was specifically referring to the splayed block with special numbering that was with the Guarise car; there is only one other block like this known in the world that is damaged and in the hands of another RAV collector. Both are Memo cars and IMO they both received these one off blocks but retained the IV top end from engineering which lead to Mr. Knafel referring to them as RAV cars. There are three other unknown facts that I cannot share; I was asked not to, that lend a heavy hand in favor of this theory. |
Re: Apology
I've read these threads discussing the infamous R/A V Judges on numerous occasions. I find them fascinating, both because of my closet Pontiac lust, and because it is simply a good read. I'll admit that when I first encountered them, I believed that there was no possibility of a 70 GTO leaving the factory with a V in place, engineering special or otherwise. However, recent discoveries I've made while researching other cars have made me open to the possibility. Good topic, either way.

Keith
I'm curious, have you ever heard of anyone else having and intake like the one on your dad's car or was it a one off? For those of you that don't know Keith's dad worked up at the plant and got a few special goodies; off the record of course |

There was a quantity of 12 of them in the storage bin; Dad stood and watched while the guy cut 11 of them in half and then ran off with the last one. K |
