I agree Rick, like I said it is "small potatoes" in the grand scheme of things.. That is why I let myself cool down before I had words with this guy. I certainly was NOT going to let this go. That is the other reason why I pulled up stakes and left it was not worth staying there and getting even more mad or have something else brew!! I went home, put on my IPod and cut my grass....

I commend you for keeping your cool and glad it didn't escalate into something much worse where your name shows up in the Queens police blotter.

Is it just me or have others noticed that a lot of the fun is missing from car shows and cruises these days.Everything from disageements over saving spots,a bunch of guys not liking a bunch of other guys, more touchy-feely people, guys getting really mad when they don't win a $5 trophy etc....What's going on!?Sorry not trying to hi-jack the thread. But I've been going to shows since the 1980's and sometimes it's just not worth the effort or gas.Much more fun sometimes to just go for a drive by yourself and get some ''rumble therapy''.

Re: I'VE HAD IT WITH PEOPLE AT CAR CRUISES

We have two separate issues at hand. First is moving cones and taking a spot that the owner of the location has deemed reasonable. Second is the actual premise of saving spots at shows.

I have no qualms with the way you handled things Rich. When pressed in that situation we'd all benefit from taking advice on how you handled the situation.

My problem is with reserving spots in general. The general rule is that if you weren't there first you have no real claim to anything. The first thing that comes to mind is waiting in lines. We'd all love to skip to the front of the register check out, ticket line or the bathroom. I don't understand why we as a society know that somehow skipping to the front of a line is wrong, but reserving spaces for someone who is tardy is right? These car show have created this atmosphere. It also happens at camp grounds where people "save" a prime piece of real estate even though they've got no real claim to the property. We all pay the same amount to camp or show our cars at the same show. It's like general admission at a concert. If you get there early, you get to lean against the rail and be closest to the band.

I guess it's the same old problem that's been going on forever.

I expect to be treated as I would treat others. I would NEVER save a parking space for someone or even try to at a car show if I am there by myself, even if allowed by the rules. It's disrespectful to anyone who gets up early and tries to get a good parking spot at any show. If I want to park with my friends, I will wait, meet up with them, and then drive in together and try and find spaces where we can be close. That's showing common courtesy to your fellow car enthusiasts. Your personal property doesn't need to be spread across multiple desirable (shaded) parking spaces if you have only one vehicle there, even if it's allowed by the event organizer. First come first served is correct, but it should only be your immediate vehicle. The next vehicle pulling in behind you is the next first come, first served, and so on.

This is an interesting conversation. I agree with Matt on principle but also can understand the other side if saving spots is allowed by the show. I personally think saving spots should not be allowed. After all, if your friends show up late they can always park within viewing distance of their cars and always sit with you in the shade.

Put yourself in the position of driving into a car cruise and then having to park outside the show because several available parking spaces have little orange Harbor Freight construction cones for people's buddies that just "might" show up.

I don't even bother anymore for the most part. I got sick of hearing people trash someone else's car because it wasn't the right year or make or some other, similar childish b.s. Took all the fun out for me.
