(lol) Used to, after we would make a good pass, we'd see our competitors taking off the windshield wipers, rearview mirrors, floor mats, etc. K |

I remember heading to Barnes and Nobles every month just to make sure I got a Hemmings the first day available.
I know isn't a car mag, but still car related. I gave away as many of my old mags as I could and took the rest to the recycler. I saved a few with special articles. "How to Z/28 your 283 Chevy" that I bought in 1969. Can't remember if it was Popular Hot Rodding or Car Craft. I still have it. |

I was 16, had a 57 Chevy with a 283. That's the first car mag I every bought. 7-11 on Britton Rd. in OKC.

Back then we called them a "301". A 283 punched out .125 with pop up pistons and "Fuelie" 2.02 heads and solid cam.
First car mags I bought were a 1961 Car Craft with a '61 Impala on the cover, then February (maybe March?) 1962 Hot Rod. I believe it had a Maroon '62 Vette on the cover. Felt like finding buried treasure!! Still have them somewhere. |
Unfortunately, HMM has been on quite the downward spiral for awhile and it’s content is drifting away from the title of the magazine. I actually have my subscription to that mag delivered to my parents’ house so my father can read thru it first and give me the inevitable monthly phone call to tell me what excited him in the magazine in a particular issue. He doesn’t call much to talk about it anymore . . . .
