[ QUOTE ] The car in the article was a three speed manual, but the Ebay one is an automatic (Powerglide?) - uphill grades or headwinds might be an adventure. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif [/ QUOTE ] More than likely that Automatic is a "Torque Drive" transmission which is an automatic but has to be shifted from low to high and back to low. Torque Drive trans is a 2 speed but not the typical Powerglide. They were installed in 4 cylinder and alot of 6 cylinder Novas. Tommy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif [/ QUOTE ] I had a 1970 Nova with a 6 and the Torque Drive trans years ago....1982. From what I remember it was in high gear all the time. I don't ever remember it shifting unless I did it manually. I put a T-350 in it and the little 6 came alive. The trans had a shift kit in it and it would get 2nd. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif I think it had some good gears in it also...3:55 maybe? 'Cause it would go through the gears pretty quick. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: 1970 4-cylinder Nova
I used to look carefully at the six banger Novas when I was fixing smashed cars as front end collisions often drove the back side of the waterpump shaft into cyl. #1 thus killing the engines...the shorter V8's always lived through the accidents no problem!.
Sometimes it'd happen on other cars too but the Novas seemed the worst as relatively minor hits straight on the front often resulted in the problem.. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |

Also, a direct hit to the center point of a Nova front bumper will split it wide open - ask me how I know! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: 1970 4-cylinder Nova
Don't know if most of you are aware or not, but there were no 4 cylinder Chevy IIs/Novas produced by GM Canada after 1965. Even after production moved to the U.S. in 1968, none of the 4 cylinder cars were exported for sale in Canada. This also applied to Acadians.
