Re: DAY 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for Camaro/Nova
Ok I just MIGHT have scored a set of Classic Chambered 3" mufflers for my '61 Pontiac with a "mild" 409/425Hp motor.
Will keep you informed on any info I can help with. P.S. IF these work well and sound not TOO TOO bad, I will be getting some from my '69 Nova as well. |
Re: DAY 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for Camaro/Nova
I picked up a set of chrome Hooker sidemounts for a SB 1st gen Camaro last year. Got to clean them up for some garage art

Re: DAY 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for Camaro/Nova
Sam, if you put them on right on left and left on right upside down all you need to do is torch holes in that hood with out touching the super scoop and all of a sudden Ugly gets a status never seen before......
lmao those are soooo period correct for an X frame 62..cool for one of those ...... |

I bought this complete Cyclone Kit......(Dave was awesome to work with) When I started this thread I had already clicked the watch on eBay. I was investigating other full exhaust options. I am swapping out the mufflers for Cherry Bombs. The NOS Blue 2" Cyclone/Walker glass packs be listed in the parts for sale section. this weekend,,,, I am real happy with this Real Day 2 NOS system as I get the best of both worlds....A vintage system with stock appearing tail pipes (adding chrome tips) without the muffler shop generic look. I'm Glad to see the participation was high, Everyone contributed Great Info & Pics..... Thanks, Tom |
Re: DAY 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for Camaro/Nova
Slick set up Tom. Very vintage - very D2. Let us see it once you get it hooked up!

Re: DAY 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for Camaro/Nova
Thanks Sam,
I'm cutting off the collecters as I'm using 3 1/8" down to 2" cone collecters on the Stahl headers, secured with anti-slip bands instead of conventional clamps to mate up to the vintage head pipes. This serves two purposes; 1, too preserve the integrity of the super rare vintage Stahl Headers and the vintage pipes. 2, Ease of uncapping the Headers for Race duty/ Hot street action. The Car itself is quite stock appearing with lots of high-end bolt-ons for AHRA Stock /GT 2 & NHRA Modified Stock Class Rules circa 1970-74. Retaining the ability to be street driven locally and to long distance events when not trailered, hence 4:10 gears in place of 5:38's. |
Re: DAY 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for Camaro/Nova
In great respect to these Rare Day 2 pieces my research (memory recall & inquiries with people in the know from back in the day)
I've confirmed some info: The Hush Thrush Turbos were nothing more than universal replacement, imitations of GM's Actual Corvair Turbo mufflers. Poor imitations at that, using various nipple sizes & 2" flow thru where Real Ones were 2 1/2" inlet/outlet with true large flow tubes/ baffles .. The Hush Thrush Glass pack cans updated from Early 50's original design for very small C.I. engines such as Flat heads, Nail valve Buick's, 265/283 Chevys Etc....using a Seriously small 1 1/2-1 3/4 flow thru punched knife like construction with various nipple sizes from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches. Quite ineffective for Performance, geared more towards guys who wanted Noisey attention than HP. The Cherry Bomb Turbos & Glass Packs were made by Maremont and were more performance based in design using 2 1/4-2 1/2 inch flow thru on the 1970 -76 designs. (Turbos were 2 1/2" & nearly identical to GM ....Walker had nice ones too) That said, GM TURBOS, MAREMONT & WALKER Performance Glass Packs are a Top choice. Finding NOS Ones is another story........ the Lithoed Woodpecker and HUSH THRUSH paint Scheme, doesn't cut it for my application...... <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: VintageMusclecar</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It doesn't get much more "Day 2" than this. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...UupQf/$_57.JPG These were for those who prefered a little more subtlety. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...UsT5b/$_57.JPG</div></div> |
