This was the beginning of the Mopar Muscle Magazine Project Pit Viper circa January 1993. The car is rolling down the assembly line. I got an insiders press pass as I was the Tech/Managing Editor of Mopar Muscle and Musclecar Review at the time. The guys at the New Mack assembly plant were great but extremely security conscious about where my camera was pointing. I have about 500 slides of the whole assembly plant process. Maybe I'll publish them someday. Anyway, this car, VIN #00102 was mine and I must have spooked them so much that they left a brand new Snap-On 1/4 inch drive ratchet set in the trunk. It was there when I took delivery! The car was sold to us (me) at a deep discount as we were going to use it as the project car for the magazine. It was great time. For months after delivery the guys at Team Viper would send spare parts to us in unmarked boxes for the various articles we were writing. I took delivery in Jan of 1993 and we immediately disassembled the body for repaint. The car was going to be the "Bonzai Blue" of the GTS Show Car, only Dodge had no way of painting the prepainted panels prior to delivery. I remember a funny phone call to the Viper guys when I asked for the paint code for the show car's paint. They said: "Well we can't give you the paint code because it's secret...but we can send you all of the paint and all of the emblems and decals, etc." Not being one to argue, I said Okey Dokey! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

They wouldn't let me keep any of the paperwork but did let me take a photo or 2 of it. No build sheets of any kind ever were left in the cars. They were completely sanitized prior to delivery. |

This was the beginning of the Mopar Muscle Magazine Project Pit Viper circa January 1993. [/ QUOTE ] Here was the finished car at Sebring International Raceway in mid 1997. The car held the lap record at Sebring in the SCCA ASP class for a full season. The car was featured in Mopar Muscle from 08/1993 to 05/1995. After the Gen 2 Vipers came out in 1996 my car became pretty much obsolete as it was placed in the class with the newer 450 horse Coupes with the updated suspensions. The car now sits in the middle of my garage with 7,800 "Sunday only" miles, and my kids play in it. It also makes a great work bench too. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif Maybe in another 20 years it will be worth something as the first Viper magazine feature car in existance.
