saw this Hurst Grand Prize 1970 Nova on the Peterson Photo site
might be the winners of the Hurst Nova for the Hurst name the shifter contest Looks like "name the shifter contest" is on the quarter panel They call it a 3 speed stick automatic It became known as the Hurst Auto Stick and was made as a bench seat floor conversion shifter using a rod not a cable. Also used by Yenko in the Deuce auto trans cars some were even installed by Hurst |
Always wondered where that car wound up.

Cool shot Joe also similar to another we've seen w/ the kid on the roof. I'm always keeping eyes peeled for this car and saved a few pics of it over the years, here's a couple below but there's more in past threads here including some w/ the Hurst Girls and a different lucky young lad?:hmmm: :beers: ~ Pete . |
I entered that contest with Hurst Automatic Stick Shifter.

Does anyone know the vin number for this car ?
|
in that drag racing photo , looks to have a 1970's New York orange color plate on it
|
Wes Eisenschenk, who wrote the Lost Musclecars book, has been searching for it and the trail went cold in Ohio I believe.

in that youtube he said the winning name was Hurst Matic ?
I never heard that name. Hurst had a lot of names like Pro Matic and V-Matic The contest was for the shifter that was named AUTO/STICK Later there was a Auto/Stick II and Auto/Stick 3 |
Hurst A Matic. Per the folks who won the car.

I know I had it up through high school, when one of my buddies grabbed it off my head and jumped in the swimming pool. I don't think it got saved after that. K |

Color pic of the Hurst Nova w/ George Hurst and Wally Parks also same kid on the roof as Joe posted back on page 1 but slightly different shot. :beers: ~ Pete . |
You can see on the roof of the car, under the young boy, the words "Hurst A Matic", so that would indicate that they at least intended for that to be the name of their automatic trans shifter. Personally, I have never (previous to this thread) heard of that shifter called anything other than "Auto/Stick" :dunno:

See 68 Pontiac GTO with Hurst-A-Matic and and Hurst-O-Magic as far as that verbiage
|
I'd bet money both of those GTOs had the factory Hurst Dual Gate shifter.
