I came back from the NCRS Regional with more than just a ribbon

Sooooooo, I have been having fits since the sale of the green 67 coupe that I had (not my Dad's car). I've offered up the anology that..... I'm like a child with out a blanket, if I do not have a midyear Corvette in my posession. That having been said, I zero'd in on this 67 roadster that earned a Top Flight award at the Rochester, MN Regional.
I dont have much for pics at the moment, but here is the rundown. 427-390hp M21 4 speed 3.70 positraction AM/FM radio Transistorized Ignition Side exhaust White wall tires Marina blue, blue vinyl interior. POP and tank sticker, on top of title copies, complete owner history with no gaps, correspondence between owners, and many miscellaneous reciepts / paperwork. All original body panels, bonding strips, and about 65% original paint. 45k documented miles. Luckily, all of the previous owners saved any of the removed parts when service was needed. I have the original fan clutch, water pump, fuel pump, single crimp brake hoses, wiper blades, T3's, spark plug wires, radiator hoses, etc. There are a few smalls that are needed, but not much. I rebuilt the carb this week after getting it home, as it REALLY ran like crap. After that, it now runs like a swiss watch. I am going to do a brake job this coming week and drive it for the rest of the summer. Over the winter, I'll get into some deep cleaning and light detailing. The car has the right amount of patina, that Tracey and I can use the car without reservation. Here is what I have for pics at the moment........ |
So Tim...when you are out in public....is there an aura surrounding you that whispers "Sell Me Your Corvette, Sell Me Your Your Corvette"?? You sure can find them!!
This one resonates well with me for some reason :hmmm: Congrats!! - Bill W |

You dog, I was drooling over that one at the show. Those Blue on Blue mid-years grab my attention too.

Beautiful car Tim!

What a great car, Tim. You will have fun with it up north this summer.
|
Congrats Tim!! Way cool car!

Big block, real pipes, convertible, docs and original motor. Check all the boxes huh… stunning!

----Love it, Tim! I'm sorry the whitewalls were gone. This 67 would look fantastic with them.....Bill S

I've been fooling with this car off and on, between everything else I have had going. While trying to stay busy between jobs, I thought I should update this thread. So, that having been said, here we go.
I've managed to put about 900 miles on the car since I purchased it. I must say, I got this to run pretty damn good. A carb rebuild, some basic tuning, and a heavy right foot has given me a pleasant surprise. Might be one of the hardest running L36's I've had. Originally delivered to Hallman's Chevrolet in Johnstown, PA on June 26th, 1967 to Mr. John Minemyer. https://i.imgur.com/Z3AyqM4h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zfgOrMYh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Q63IGHah.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3E2xBi9h.jpg One of the first items on the list, was to have the tank sticker validated, which our own Tim G was kind enough to oblige. In addition, I had Al Grenning of CCAS validate the engine case, Protect-O Plate, and the trim tag. https://www.ccas4vettes.com/pr01.htm https://i.imgur.com/QWd4Ajwh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SUnRGiuh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ASGQkMbh.jpg My vision for this car is to sympathetically reverse some items that have occurred through the years. Much like I have on some other cars that have passed through my hands. The car has many original features, numbers, and bits. Having said that, there is enough that has been fluffed, reworked, and changed.......where the car is far from a pure original car. My mission is not to restore this car, but rather get it to a point of just a nice old car that has been maintained. A sharp eye will pickup on the fact there are remains of orange paint underneath the car. The 2nd owner took the liberty of the ever so popular, "lets paint the chassis orange"!!!!:hmmm: Added to that, the 3rd owner then painted it black over that:hmmm::hmmm::hmmm: Sooooooo, I've been experimenting with the magic brew to remove that. Thankfully, this has a really nice dry frame, and they didn't spray the orange (or the black) into the least accessible areas. https://i.imgur.com/OgOL3exh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/e5pf9XYh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/sb6XWUdh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cnZetWhh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oKV6Tlqh.jpg Also to this point, I have installed new stainless sleeved O-ring calipers all the way around, new brake hoses, and installed rebuilt trailering arms. I'll pull the engine and trans this coming winter. At that point, I'll rebuild the front control arms and remove more spray bomb work. |
The original fuel pump has come back from Fred Ballard
https://i.imgur.com/8E4hM9qh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/56rL9J6h.jpg And some of the original parts are headed out for rebuilding....... https://i.imgur.com/6V5BvQuh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/6nPjKCvh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/x6ikxSjh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lqMXay3h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qk6JTNjh.jpg Hell, they even saved the original radiator hoses, which I will reinstall. I'll pull the cluster and clean all of the gauge faces / lenses, plus rebuild the clock. The dash pads are really nice, as are the door panels and seat covers. Once I pull that all apart, I'll see what I can accomplish with the carpets (trying to get them to the next level) https://i.imgur.com/qDwpMEMh.jpg I've got these on deck for the car too:naughty: https://i.imgur.com/ndHSLCWh.jpg That's all for now! |
Very cool - I’d say the car is in good hands :beers:

Blue Streaks on a Marina blue car..hmmm.:hmmm:..:beers:
Wow is that frame clean!! Refresh my memory, one repaint?? Glad to see you with a C2 again Tim, classic case of, right car, right owner!! - Bill W |
What a great car, Tim. You know how to get them mechanically perfect. I’ll enjoy watching the engine pull.

I am pleasantly surprised. 2 1/2 weeks and I got the water pump back from Hite Parts Exchange.
Thanks to Doug Perry for the suggestion! https://i.imgur.com/EjoCFA1h.jpg |
----This 67 was already a stunner, and now I guess it will be a stunnerer! As usual, Tim you are making all the right moves....Bill S

Inspiration to get back on my 63, Tim. Geeze Louise that is stunning!! Are you sure you don’t want to trade for a Silver Blue 63 ragtop? It’s equipped with the ultra rare non-syncromesh 1st gear 3-speed transmission!:3gears: It’s so sought after it has its own emoji on the Smiles list to the right!!:3gears::3gears:

Tim,
Very nice 67 L36 Corvette. Very cool that it sold at Hallman Chevrolet in Johnstown, Pa. Hallman Chevrolet was only about 30 miles from me. They sold a lot of high performance chevys to the guys in the steel mills and coal mines of this area. I once had a shadow grey 1970 SS454 Monte Carlo that sold there new. It would later become Rudy Haupt/Hallmans Chevrolet and then just Rudy Haupt Chevrolet. Have you tried to reach out to John Minemyer the original owner? |

Awesome…love this car, Tim!

The snow started flying here yesterday, so I dug into the 67 today. Got the steering column out, gauge cluster, glove box, and radio. I already put a new lens in the radio and reinstalled that. Got the clock sent out......should have that back in about a month. Next, disassemble the gauge cluster, clean the faces, clean the lenses, and rebulb the harness.

With the assistance of Matt Lamer, we also came up with this pic from the original owner.
Thanks Matt! |
White top and whitewall tires, I like that combination.

Way cool pic!

WHOA, how the heck did I miss this thread.
Congratulations Tim, you found your blanket. I like everything you are attempting to do to this ‘67 roadster. Question, since you have pulled countless dashboards out of mid years do you ever prop a pillow towards the back, stretch out and nap. Thanks for sharing your passion ….. again. Chris PS, looks like a ‘65 Lemans in front of your Vette. |

The trip odometer would not reset as designed, added to the fact the tach and speedo bounced more than they should. The magnets in both proved to be bad. So, everything got cleaned, lubed, and repaired as necessary. I had everything else in the cluster cleaned and ready to go once the tach and speedo arrived. I was referred to this shop in Milwaukee by Colin Comer. Great service, as they turned it around in less than a week!
http://www.speedometersolutions.com/ I rebulbed the cluster, including an NOS GE257 flashing bulb(s) I keep in stock. I steam cleaned the carpets a few times, and gained an improvement in the overall look of them. While the car could probably stand new rugs, I feel they play the part of the car. New rugs would just look out of place IMO. I should have the clock back later today. |
Both gauges and carpet look great, Tim. I certainly wouldn't replace the carpets, they look great and once the seats are in they will be fine.
|
Absolutely agree with Tim G, those carpets need to stay!!
