1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
1 Attachment(s)
Just completed and appeared at 2008 Trans Am National this weekend. It won first in Class 2nd Gen. Just completed 3 year rotisserie restoration. The first time i saw the car in person was this weekend. I bought the car 3 years ago and never saw it. It went stright to CPR Musclecars, restored by Chuck Huber and Paul Cupp. They did an unbelievable job. The first and only Pontiac they have done.

Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
This was the hardest and most expensive car i have ever had to restore. 1 of 88 ever made, 1 of 24 California cars, 1 of 15 4 speeds, 1 of 9 in white, 1 of how many with so few options. There were so many 1 off parts for this year it mamakes you sick. We short cut nothing so it was expensive. It has the correct Ram Air IV block, intake, California carburetor, head bolts, manifolds, radiator and it took 2 years to find the California gas tank. It was the biggest pain to restore that i wouldn't suggest anyone restoring a 1970 unless you have a lot of money or a donor car. It took 3 years and an awful lot of patience to restore. It is absolutely gorgeous and the first and last Pontiac Chuck and Paul will restore. If it weren't so rare and it wasn't me they wouldn't have done it. Thanks God it took BEST IN CLASS 2ND GENERATION at the TRANS AM NATIONALS! The Baldwin Motion car is soon to be started. I will update it when i get something done.

Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
I can agree with you on the cost of restoring these 2nd gen cars. Even my lowly, commonplace 72 T/A (1 of 458 455HO 4-speeds) is getting pretty darn close to the 80% of six figure cost in the restoration already. And that's with me having done everything but the body.
They do look nice when done, though! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Congrats on the awards. Now drive the darn thing! |
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
I don't think that he will be driving it Steve. But I would.....Congrats That is one HELL of a car. As is the Brewster that you beat out..I kind of like Blue ones.
Kevin if you could please post some engine compartment shots. Thanks http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...bard6-7006.jpg https://www.yenko.net/photos/showgall...00/ppuser/3053 |

Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Absolutely. Everything I own/build is an over-restored driver. Otherwise it's just an expensive coffee table. You gotta excercise these monsters. (That and the fact that my trailer is 18 years old - makes me have to drive them around https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif)

Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
I've really fallen in love with these cars recently, I just got a similar (RA III with air) TA with red interior and it's stunning. It's amazing how much attention these car receive. Yours looks great.

Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Kevin, congrats! What a great car!!! Restoration looks awesome. (drive it anyway https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif)
One of my personal holy grail cars. If you need to give it away, all my Pontiacs have blue guts so it would feel right at home https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Enjoy that RAIV's................there is no substitute John |
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Kevin, congrats on the car - i saw the car at the CPR shop as it progressed over the years and each step of the way was fantastic.
Congrats again and good luck with the car... Nice job CPR - Chuck and Paul! |
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Kevin, That fuel line and those brake lines are the talk of the Pontiac Trans Am community. May I suggest that you may want to change those items to the correct steel lines. Also I hear that some of the underhood gloss levels my not be correct. Mind you I have not seen your car in person, but this is what I have heard. Also remember if thats the only things that "the experts" can come up with than you are light years ahead of most out of the box restorations.
Atleast drive it around the block and fell that Pontiac RAIV POWER.... |
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Killer car Kevin... can I have it?
|
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Kevin
I feel your pain on restoring a 70 T/A ,your car looks Killer great job on the car !!!! |
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
I realize the air cleaner and heater box are too glossy, but, thats the way i like them. No offense taken and there are several opinions on the brake lines. The PY forum has a post on the 70-73 tech comments about what the AACA has to say about both. In the end we all have our own quirks and opinions as did the guys who worked on them years ago, different workers, different shifts, mondays and fridays, tired or not, who knows. The reason we show them, IMO, is so that we can discuss these types of things, is there a 100% right or wrong on some things, who knows, but, the guy paying the bills at the end has to be happy and i am. I will say that i have seen other cars different than the way i would do them, but, i like them too, just a difference in opinion or preference. Baskin and Robbins has 31 flavors of Ice Cream because not everyone like the same flavor, candy looks good and smells good, but, tastes different, depending on who you ask!

Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Kevin,, Great looking car. As for the Pontiac guys, send them some cheese to go with the whine. You give those guys a beautiful woman to do with as they please and they'll still complain. Again, great restoration.
PS. I have three Pontiacs and I will not complain. LOL https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: 1970 Pontias Trans Am Ram Air IV
Thanks, i kinda like it myself!

[/ QUOTE ] Because inevitably that beautiful woman will open her mouth and start talking. (I am able to type that because my beautiful wife is out shopping right now https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif) Awesome car. One of these decades I'll finish mine and we can run 'em. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
