66 Chevlle SS Opinion
This is the stamp pad from a 66 Chevelle SS that I'm looking to buy. I never had a 1966 and the Protecto-plate shows the same assembly stamp code but does not include the "H". I don't think this should be there. Does anybody know? Thanks, Ed

Re: 66 Chevlle SS Opinion
The H indicates that the engine originally used a Holley carb. I am not sure if it would be on the POP or not.

Re: 66 Chevlle SS Opinion
Jason is correct the "H" is holley and is not on the protecto plate this is my 67 plate and efh suffix I also have a 66 edh and the same story.

Re: 66 Chevlle SS Opinion
It's not on the engine suffix part of the POP, but the H for Holley is still present in the upper LH corner of the plate.

This is a picture of the stamp unit used in the old days along with one of the number pins it held. Once the numbers are installed, there is a safety pin like wire that holds them in. You can see it on the stamper. Hard to see how the numbers would get out of alignment. Look at the Tonawanda stamp. Nice and straight.

I think I've seen that stamp before. The vin seems fishy. Be careful if it's a car you are considering buying. There's a guy that used to be a member here that could tell you for sure. www.mysterychevelle.com

The assembly stamp looks good, vin doesn't.

Re: 66 Chevlle SS Opinion
Looks like an early Atlanta stamp pad ...
Tonawanda stamp was gang style... The VIN was stamped individually...I have seen later pads (May 66) with the "A" for Atlanta squeezed into the pad appearing as if the "A" was stamped in after the VIN had already stamped...I have a few atlanta pad photos that are similar to the pad that is posted. Looking at my sequence of atlanta pads, it is apparent that the font size changed at certain times in the production year... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif One more thing, the "H" in the pad is correct |

Ed, please correct me if I am wrong. |

Jacquie:
I just wrote Mike Crown to see what he thought about the pad. It is a Baltimore Chevelle. I have seen many stamp pads such as 63 409 pad stamps that look like someone did it in their garage. I'm inclined to think the VIN stamp is original on this one. I'll let you know when I hear from the wizard. Ed |
Re: 66 Chevlle SS Opinion
Thanks for everybody's input. I'll just stick to what I know from now on. The pad is not original. Ed

Thanks Jacquie.

Re: 66 Chevlle SS Opinion
It's certainly an atypical looking stamp pad, even for a re-stamp...Does anyone know how the stamp date matches up against the cast date? Does anyone have an early baltimore pad (late 65) that they would be willing to share? Just curious to see how it compares?
