1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
This car has been beat to death, not only is the L89 questionable, but outside the 70 COPO Deuce cars, a CBW rear was not available in a 70 production Nova either, 3:55 (CBT)was the lowest production rear available in 70. Suprised it doesn't have an "original" tri-power set up on it. Where's the pic of the engine stamp.? POP.?

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
I would think a car with so much history or value would have a better listing per say, Thats alot of money for a car on ebay, If it was the real deal a legit auction would be the source.... also some docs date codes picture of the block etc etc etc..... But on another note I have a Killer one of one only ever made 427cc vespa built by motion very very very rare wish I could keep her... please call Jenny at 867-5309 if Tommy answers he is a a$$

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
The black one in my opinion, isn't either. That makes none of any.

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
Also the black one restored by Legandary, and by the owners own addmission, has 074 heads on it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Real or not I'll never get that.
That car has killer black paint on it too https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Mike |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
The seller replied to my question "could you post pics of the POP, Dealer sheet, engine and trans stamps" with "you can arrange to view the car in person. I will not exploit myself to all the idiots on ebay. I hope you understand". Did he just call me an idiot?

I have a June 1970 test in Super Stock and Drag Iluustrated on a L34 Nova that they state has a 3:73 twice in the article. I have to disagree with 3:55 as the lowest gear you could order. I have attached a pic of a "CBU" 12 bolt that looks legit also That only Novas would have as 69 Camaros did not use the "C" according to my 62-76 Chevrolet parts books. I feel the Silver Nova which was in the Dupont Registry a couple years ago is not legit. The homemade dual snorkel is a joke. I was also wondering about the Black one Legendary restored. Did they restore 2 Black ones an L78 and a L89? because I believe I have seen both. One with aluminum heads and one without. and 2 different POPs. Just my 2 cents.

isn't there any door panel makers that can do them correctly? This one screams "repro" (overstuffed)

The only repop options are wider like the Chevelle and the pads are funky. The one in that picture is not the correct original Nova part. |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
No B T P markings on WRN produced Novas

Tony, I would like to join you as a member of the "E Bay Idiots Club". I checked the sellers feedback and he was very happy with his purchase of NOS cowl tag rivets and installation tool.I haven't asked how well they worked on this Nova, but when I do we will have our first club meeting. Marc

I sent him a decent reply, stating if I were trying to sell a car of this caliber and pedigree, I would be more than willing to post the pictures asked for. No response back from him. |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
In reference to the 70 Rear codes, that road test L34 car was a "press core car" made available by the factory to the magazines for testing. I am not sure (and correct me if I'm wrong) but didn't some of the very late 69 (into the 70 model year) Camaros have "C" stamped rears.? I have never seen a legit 70 Nova SS (again outside of a Deuce) with anything lower than a factory CBT (3:55). Go to nova resource.com and check 70 Nova gear options/codes, they don't show a CBU (3:73) available and only go to a 4:10 which came in Deuce cars. In 69 the world was your Oyster, ratio wise.

Yes that is correct. |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
Sully,
You are correct. The only way you could had a lower gear installed on a 70 Nova is if the dealer installed it per the customers request. The 3.55 ratio was the lowest you could have ordered from the factory. |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
Regardless of the authenticity of the car, how does anyone know how many they made? That's something that I thought wasn't documented? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
|
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
I agree with Sully on the rear ratios. I would need to see a window sticker, or invoice showing something lower than a 3.55 to verify it.
The number 311 seems to be a catch all for L89 production. Some believe that number is for 311 camaros, 311 Chevelles, and 311 Novas. Some think that's an overall production number. I won't argue either way. But if there were supposed to be 311 Novas, one with absolute bullet proof docs should have shown up by now. I want to believe there are some out there. We just need positive proof. |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
I bet 311 is correct for Camaros.

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
The auction is over.He wanted $139k and turned down $125k on a best offer.

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
Ken
Good point on the 311 figure, I always take that one with a grain of salt. No way did Camaro, Chevelle, and Nova each have 311 L89 cars each, more like 311 total L89's built @ Tonawanda.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Mike |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
To me if an L89 Nova was ever made it would have been in 1968 or 1969. I think by 1970 aluminum heads were falling out of favor with the factory because of all of the warranty issues. Has there ever been a documented L89 1970 Camaro?

Willow Run did not use B P T stampings on firewall is correct. I have a 1993 Willow Run employees yearbook put out by GM Willow Run that shows pics from the beginning thru the assembly plants demise. A 1968-72 era pic shows stickers on the drivers side wing window I have attached. You can see the B and the P and it looks like it maybe in the Trim area and will get a T soon.

Seriously.........Building a L-89 Nova is easy, as is getting a restamped Block, as is getting Bogus documentation......what's a little harder is getting a "Documented" History of the car......Just for what it's worth.....In having a conversation with a owner of a "Claimed" L-89 Nova......I asked this Question....."Did you ever get in contact with the previous owners to verify the car"..........the response was...."I called ....But..they never called back"..........Makes a Guy wonder??........
Documented History is everything......These cars just don't fall out of the Sky!! Just my $.02 Ken https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...BruceRocks.gif |

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
The 311 # is for 69 cars. I don't think there are any L89's listed for 70.
From http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.sh...arAxleNumbers: 1970 axles had a C (for car) prefix added to the axle code. Most late 69 (after 08A) axles (10 or 12 bolt) were stamped using the 1970-style code, e.g. CBT instead of just BT. For reference (since the VIN is not listed): Seller: noom1108 in Delray Beach, Florida. 396/375 HP, Aluminum Heads (T0318CKU) Cortez silver, black vinyl top, per trim tag (11427). M-21 Muncie 4 speed (P0C20). 12 bolt Posi Trac, 4.10 gearing (CBW0305G) |

Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
Kim;
Very cool. This confirms what I expected. No paint stamped PTB at Willow Run. Stickers were probably use the entire time of Nova Production. See here: http://chevynova.org/1962.html for pictures of the 1962 inspection stickers. From JohnZ who worked there[ QUOTE ] Picture 5 is a shot of a Chevy II after exiting the inspection area. You can see several single letter inspection stickers on the windshield. The small square inspection stickers are on the passenger side of the windshield just above the wiper blade. The some of the inspection stickers the windshield stickers were "M" (Mechanical OK from the Final Line), "P" (Paint OK from the Final Line), "B" (Body Trim OK from the Final Line), and "RT" (Roll Test OK) [/ QUOTE ] Greg |
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
Kurt ...Im just going by a 62-76 Parts book published by GM. They list a 3:73 for a 69 Camaro as code BU and on later built 69 Camaros QX there is no C listed prior to any of the 2 letter 69 Camaro codes. I guess even GM makes mistakes too. I feel that if you wanted a lower gear on a 1970 Nova other than 3:55 you could get one if you hit the right channels. On the L89 deal it is possible but not probable. I feel that small dealers like Yenko and Gibb could order special requests why other dealers who sold larger volumes could not get any small requests. I say Never say Never. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
|
Re: 1 of 6 L89 Nova? Opinions Appreciated.
It's not surprising that GM never documented the C being added to the late 69 axle codes. The codes themselves didn't change, so it wasn't really noteworthy, except to us. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif
