Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
This car was just purchased by my friend and it's in our shop for a resto. It's a Flint LS6 that's pretty much intact with most of its' original equipment. The car appears highly optioned as well with the courtesy light package, tach and guages etc. It retains all the original drivetrain, motor, trans. and rear which is a 4.10 posi. We can't wait to get started on it, it's a true time capsule for sure.

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
It gets even better, I forgot to mention I was able to find the original owner and I spoke with him at length about the car Sunday. He still has the original window sticker that he removed the day he bought the car. He was amazed the car even still existed and can't wait to see it in person!!

My favorite color.

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
awesome, find
If it were mine, I wouldn't touch that car, just clean it, too precious of a benchmark to lose all that originality/patina to a restoration IMHO http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...WBKtRh3tuO.jpg |

Jim, unfortunetly the floors are shot and the trunk pan is a little weak too. The speakers are all intact with the radio and this is still the original lacquer paint on it
|
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
..and an AM/FM 8TK radio too.
Notice the chrome sill mouldings and fender mounted antenna, added later on. Build sheet? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Flint cars are not known to have the typical build sheet as most other plants. However, the car has never been apart so we don't yet know what's in it. We did find a trim paper denoting the bucket seats and interior trim code, that was just under the back seat as we looked quick for seat belts that had fallen behind the seat.

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Yep, they're even more rare than Arlington sheets. Just pullin your chain a little. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Nice detail shots. |
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
I saw the car on ebay, considered bidding, what a cool car! Great entry price too.
|
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Looks like a fairly complete car as well which will make your life a lot easier! Just curious if it has the early or late hood on it. Little late for the early hood but I have not looked at enough Flint cars out there to know for sure. I have several hundred LS6 build sheets but think I only have one Flint sheet. Good color as well!

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
How often did the bellhousing receive the VIN instead of the block? I had never seen that before... but thinking about it for a minute, it could happen very easy!

[/ QUOTE ] We spoke with Chris White concerning the bellhousing stamping from Flint and he's seen several cars with the same stamp location, so it's not an issue with this car for us. As for Ricks' question, I'll try to post a picture of the hood for you as soon as I can. |

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Rick, I took a full picture of underneath the hood, it's in the photobucket link.

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Cool! Assuming it is original, this car has the very hard to come by early assembly line hood. Though it looks rough in the photo, hopefully it is in fairly good shape and is repairable.
Thanks for taking the photo. Rick |
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Neat car - I bought my 04 Silverado at Dick Morris.

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
I think that's a great car and I remember when it was on E-Bay recently for under $30K. That's a good buy for a complete numbers-matching LS-6 Chevelle! Arguably.........King of the Musclecars!

[/ QUOTE ] Our thoughts as well Mark. The original owner and I spoke again today, his brother also has some vintage pictures of the car from 1970. We're looking forward to seeing them. Phil, the original owner says he was a regular Friday night guy at Woodward Ave. up in Mi. I guess it's pretty well known in those parts. |
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
I was talking to the fella who had it last. I just wanted to clean it up, rebuild the mechanics as little as possible and drive it the way it is.He didn't like my offer [don't blame him!] I figured the world is kinda full of restored $100,000 LS-6's....just my take on a cool car...
|
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Jim, this car needs a complete resto. There is nothing left on the driver and passenger side floor. It's too far gone for just a quick cleanup and it really does deserve to be restored. Here's some pictures of our L78 we finished last year.

Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Seriously though...you are at the local cruise night...a super nice, frame off LS-6 pulls in to the left....Lic plate sez 'REAL-1'
Then right behind it, PULLING TO THE RIGHT,comes this car exactly as it sits but running and sounding perfect...Plate sez...'REAL-TOO' Both cars have the original window stickers plastered in the 1/4 Glass.... You only have time to look at one...wife is going nuts....which way you turning? Diamond or Diamond in the rough.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

However, it is YOUR car and you're entitled to do with it as you wish. That's why survivor's are getting harder to find every day... and their value is going up at the same rate. Thanks for posting the quality reference pics! |
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
I share your sentiments Jim and completely understand what you're saying but if you could see this floor in person, you'd know where I'm coming from. I'd be afraid to sit in it, the bucket seat may go right to the pavement. It's just not safe and from my research, the car hasn't been on the road since '77. It flat out needs a resto, there are no other options here. It either sits as is forever, or it gets restored. There's no quick cleanup for a cruise night, trust me.
|
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
Not to be argumentative, but there is a middle ground here - one could do a (as Jay Leno would put it) "sympathetic refurbishment" as opposed to an all-out resto...You could repair the floors, rebuild the brakes, get everything working and still retain the patina....
|
Re: Another LS6 Coming Back to Life!!
^ there you go, a middle ground solution

I want to see what it was supposed to be like, not someone's idea of what it was no slam intended, but as noted several times above, they are "real" only once a LOT more people are realizing that and the $$$$$ is reflected as well my opinion (which others happen to share I see), ymmv Barn finds rule! |
