Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Making the body as slick as possible is what I enjoy... I can look at a mirror like reflection in paint for hours on end...

Wow! Well done James.

Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Thanks for the kind words from all, William and I had intended on having it done a year ago... however (insert multitude of reasons here). That being said I can't wait till it's done, being very original and complete has made it quite a bit of fun to restore.
With regards to Lemans Blue... I have had 4 or 5 LB cars so I am kinda partial to them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
is it a norwood or a van nuys car?
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Norwood...
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
LeMans Blue is my favorite shade of blue. I used to own a real LB/blue standard white stripe Z. I live fairly close to you, Asheville, N.C. Do you plan on showing any this year? I would love to see it when finished. Also, is the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet show going to happen ever again?
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
May or may not show it, I am sure it will be driven some.
I doubt Whitaker will happen again. From my understanding the City didn't like it at the main dealership on Laurens Rd because of the traffic problems. Mike... the subframe isn't in yet, but here are a few photos with the garage lights off and just natural light. http://inlinethumb46.webshots.com/46...425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb56.webshots.com/43...425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb01.webshots.com/34...425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb47.webshots.com/19...425x425Q85.jpg |

Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
James, what color are the floors, appear to be gray primer ? ... thanks
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
I'll get a better picture. They are as shipped from Norwood, I used a custom mixed black with Lemans blue overspray on the bottom and white overspray on the firewall.
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
that would be awesome, I'm about to spray my floors and have been torn, my current thought is black/gray PPG Concept GM underhood mix and trying to decide on overspray, your car looks awesome
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Mixing the paints has been the most time consuming part of this project. Thank God the black car is around for direct reference.
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
After prep I shot the black mix, 2nd was gray primer over spray, finally I shot the Lemans Blue overspray.
***If the car were a style trim car it would have then had Blacked out rockers the over spray would have then covered a good bit of the Blue and gray over spray. http://inlinethumb63.webshots.com/10...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb37.webshots.com/43...425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb42.webshots.com/45...425x425Q85.jpg The non style trim cars X77, X44, have what appears to be more color but actually they are just missing the blacked out rocker over spray. |
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Thank you, these pictures are very helpful, I can now see why the blue overspray appeared gray, I would never have thought to use gray primer over the black yet under overspray color.
|
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Not until looking at unrestored cars would I have ever thought of it either...

Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
The Original Sub frame bolts and Washer set ups, this is being discussed on the CRG as well as it seems the expensive repro's are not correct.
Original front sub frame to body mounting bolt assembly (68 and EARLY 69... change in the AIM is Sept. RBW BOLT - lock washer - Spring washer (silver) - Flat Washer which appears to be heat treated steel. The undercoating was shot at an almost perpendicular angle to the bolt head from about 9. The swath on the back was blocked from the undercoating and subsequently rusted. The cupped washer was covered however after flexing during removal it flaked off easily. http://inlinethumb42.webshots.com/45...600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb02.webshots.com/31...600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb50.webshots.com/19...600x600Q85.jpg RAD MOUNT BOLTS - LEFT REPRO RIGHT ORIGINAL http://inlinethumb21.webshots.com/44...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb26.webshots.com/16...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb38.webshots.com/43...425x425Q85.jpg Chambered Exhaust retainer http://inlinethumb62.webshots.com/36...425x425Q85.jpg Original rear fuel line bracket http://inlinethumb47.webshots.com/47...425x425Q85.jpg Original molding clips... they are nice enough to reuse... lol http://inlinethumb16.webshots.com/45...425x425Q85.jpg |

Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
Is that a Kentucky plate on the car? Just curious.
Mike |
Re: 1969 Z28 Restoration
No, it's a 1973 Michigan plate (the car was from the Flushing, MI area).
