Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Uniroyal Tigerpaw:
Thanks! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/DSC_0025.jpg |
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Sam,
Shoot an email to Michelin (who owns Uniroyal now) and they should be able to decipher it for you. Worked for me! |
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Thanks Bill. I'll give em a try. Any particular email address?

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Bill - I sent them an email yesterday and received a reply today saying the code was incomplete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif . So i forwarded a photo (1st post above) and will see what they (Shirley) say.

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
I have my original spare Uniroyal F70 X 14 white lettered Uniroyal, coded UUA613. I didn't get any help either. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Contact Coker tire. Maybe they can help with the situation. I will do some investigation of my own.

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Has there ever been any particular reason for them not to reproduce the Uniroyal tires? I could use a set. I wouldn't risk driving very far on my old ones.
|
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
You will have to contact Coker on that question. The parent companies still require a lot of paperwork, money, etc. for tires too be reproduced with their name on them. Kelsey is exclusive for Goodyear, Coker deals with Michelin on the BFG's and Uniroyals and with Bridgestone on the Firestones. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Here is a date code out of what I believe to be an original Uniroyal spare in my March built 72 if it is any help.

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Thanks Jake -
Is the "2" at the end of your code for 1972? I think the "AJL7" is Uniroyal's plant. That portion of the code does not appear (nor is there room for it) on my tire. I have been told my tire is for a Jan 70 built car. |
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Yes it is/was with our COPO car. Our 396 car came with whitewalls but I don't know the brand.

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Might be Sam - I am unsure of the numbering system but that would seem to make sense - although you do not have a "0" at the end of your code - it is at the beginning. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Do you think the 3rd alpha numeric indicates the year?
|
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
It's aggravating....I received a very prompt reply and it coincided exactly with what I was told when I bought the tires, so I figured they really had their you-know-what together regarding codes on the older tires. Then everyone else gets skunked when asking essentially the same question https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
The spare in my March built 69 Nova is a Uniroyal Tiger Paw E70-14 Red Line Dynacor Rayon tire date coded GA8491. Could not get anywhere with Uniroyal...Here is the response I got back: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Thank you for your email. We welcome the opportunity to serve you. The information in which you have given does not appear to be the DOT number which indicates the week and year the tire was manufactured. All tires sold in the United States are required to meet the standards established by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Compliance is indicated by the DOT symbol imprinted on the tire's sidewall. Next to the DOT symbol is a code representing the manufacturing plant, the tire size, certain optional information, and the date of manufacture. In a 4 digit code the first 2 digits indicate the week, while the last 2 numbers refer to the year. (For example 4809 means that the tire was produced the 48th week of 2009.) In a 3 digit code the first 2 digits indicate the week, while the last digit represents the year. This designation was used before the year 2000. (For example, 129 means that the tire was produced the 12th week of 1999.) The complete DOT code is required on one sidewall of the tire. A partial DOT code may be seen on the opposite side, however there may be instances where the DOT is only on one sidewall. Got this response today from MichelIn:
Thank you for your email. According to the Dot you provided this tire was built in 1969. It is our goal to ensure that your issue has been resolved or your question answered to your satisfaction. If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 1-877-458-5878 (toll free) between 8:00AM and 8:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday or between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Eastern Time on Saturday. Sincerely, Shirley Uniroyal Tires Consumer Care Department No month associated with it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif . '69 manufacturing date for my tire would be consistent with what I was told: i.e came out of a '70 W-31 built in the 3rd week of January. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Are you selling this? Paul |
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
Hey Paul,
No, not at the moment. Will let you know when I do. |
Re: Tire Date Code decipher...Please!
The DOT required a TIN (Tire Identification Number) on all tires beginning in 1968, but at that time, the manufacturers were permitted to use their own proprietary coding formats. The regulation was modified in late 1970, and DOT mandated a standard format for the coding beginning in May, 1971, with the last three digits signifying the week of the year and the year. The format was revised again in 1999 so the last <span style="font-weight: bold">four</span> digits signified the date, with the last two being the year.
As far as I know, for the proprietary codings used from 1968-early 1971, only the Goodyear codes are known (thanks to Kelsey Tire). |
