66 Vette 427 engine with tags
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&viewitem=
427 being offerred with trim tag and NY registration (equals a title for an older car up there). Text says "I have certain paperwork and shine thing you can male a car out of this". I presume by "shine[y] thing" he means he also has the vin tag. VIN 194376S127089 I reported to ebay. Someone here who is also on any Vette forums should post this info there too, so some record of this vin can be kept to prevent future fraud. |

You presume correctly! He has a picture of the tags in the listing! |

Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
Could a person actually show <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">THEIR OWN</span></span> name and address in same picture with removed VIN tag for sale on the internet?
seriously ?? |
Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
Reported again to Ebay

Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
That paperwork may not be the seller. paperwork and open titles travel with many cars. If that is a previous owners address and the FBI or Police show up!

A quick Google check shows the EBay sellers name matches the address on the reg stub. A NYS registered motor vehicle repair shop no less. Maybe a licensed dismantler as well |

Kinda funny, but I was looking at this and slouched back in my chair with my laptop in front of me. Does anyone else see the obscurred info when they do this? Mark, C... of 183 Jefferson St...?

Yes, when I tilt my laptop I can see the name and address. Kinda cool.

Uncovering fraud vehicles and making it known when we do not only protects us and others from being duped but also preserves the values of similar but genuine vehicles many here already own!. Doesn't exposing and thwarting plans in the making exactly such as this one make perfect sense?. ~ Pete |
Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
the original concern was that the seller might be a flipper and jumping the title, since someone has determined that did not take place there is no reason
ok, now you don't have to tilt your screen: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...vettetitle.png the registration is good through 11 of 2011 |

Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
Someone should call his local police department. Couldn't they impound the paperwork for selling a "title" and tags to an unknown car.

Hey Smokey, why don't you call his local police department if his E-Bay ad causes you so much grief? And what makes you think that it's an unknown car? Maybe he's the titled owner and the car burned up somewhere. There's people on this site with re-bodied Yenkos with swapped tags that you and anyone else bored over these Winter months can "report" if you feel so inclined to be a hero. |

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: markjohnson</div><div class="ubbcode-body">

That's why you can't do it, and eBay and The Law have a problem with it. If the car burned up and the VIN tag is still attached to it, that's fine, but if it is sitting on a kitchen table like in the photo, it's illegal. |
Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
I don't know of too many police officers showing up at anyones doors who have listed vin tags or trim tags on ebay. I am sure the police have more important things to do.

The above posting surprised the sh!+ out've me as aside from this I've always very much enjoyed, appreciated and agreed w/ this member's input here.. Does personally knowing anyone's car on this site may be a rebody w/ illegaly transfered tags make this practice somehow acceptable here now?. Is this site's adage of <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">'Dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Chevrolet dealer built Supercars and COPO cars' </span></span> still the case here or has something changed?. Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
Pete, thanks for the nice words. It's just that the post about calling the police just kinda got to me and rubbed me the wrong way. I just don't like narcs, that's all! I just had an image of a fella being sentenced to jail time in front of his wife and small children and being taken away after committing a double standard crime where nobody was really hurt and that other people do all the time. Anyway, "re-Bodies" are a touchy subject these days and even after being around Musclecars for so long, I have yet to really form an opinion about that subject and probably never will. Lemme throw this out there.......what if this was a recently destroyed '69 ZL-1 Camaro where only the original engine with tags & paperwork had survived some garage fire? You think the car would come back or does it deserve to be gone from the planet forever?

Re: 66 Vette 427 engine with tags
gone with an asterisk denoting what happened to it IMHO
cars have been "rebodied" for ages and all for $$$$$$$ some people cut down Model A coupes to make trucks, others cut down truck to make tractors and still others have taken a "homely" Duesenberg sedan and changed it into a speedster wrecked or otherwise damaged vehicles have always been resurrected in some way or another since the dawn of time HOWEVER: IT IS ILLEGAL to take numbers off one body and add it to another, but that has also been done for decades. You have a wrecked car with a good drivetrain, simply swap it into another that is worn out IT IS ILLEGAL to "swap" vin numbers yet MANY MANY cars have had this done, some in an effort to make a stolen car "legal" others to take a badly damaged (wrecked, burned, etc) car "whole" again while retaining the VIN/ownership papers |
