Re: Hurricane Irene
Corvette Carlisle may get hit hard also. They are at least 120 miles west from me so that may help.

Sam, I just got back from Corvettes @ Carlisle. Turn-out was low and lots of vacant room for Corvette parking. I heard from several vendors I deal with that attendance was low also. I'm in Allentown now, seems we are in for it. We are not that far away from each other, so I would brace for it. So much for asking to go for a ride in your Z sometime soon..... Sammy, Time to break out your Amphicar!!!

Re: Hurricane Irene
Wonder if BBBenny is going to get hit up on the mountain? Donnie in NE Philadelphia will probably get it worse than us here in Souderton. The Schutzbank family in NY may get it worse than all of us here in Pa.

Re: Hurricane Irene
I am in Newport News, Virginia .... and it looks like Sat. Noon until Sunday noon will be the worst of it for us. ...So far so good.... Hope Irene takes a RIGhT TURN. I look on the weather channel at the "Water Vapor Map"... and it shows where the heat and water are coming from... kinda gives you a bigger picture of what is happening... Here is the link.... check it out... ...... click here... ( if the map is NOT moving... click on "Weather in Motion" at the bottom left ) http://www.weather.com/maps/maptype/..._animated.html |

Re: Hurricane Irene
My sister-in-law lives on a Navel base somewhere in VA....She got a call a few hours ago that they are have an emergency evacuation there. She has been here for 3 weeks now with her 2 kids...and was planning on going home tomorrow. She's stuck her for a few more days from the sounds of it from what base is telling her.

Just watched the news. Apparently, the storm is on a bee-line to NYC. Hope it changes path. Dave |
Re: Hurricane Irene
Well, this week was my first vacation days all year and I was at the beach in Beach Haven NJ. We got the earthquake which shook our house a good 4-6" side to side so that was interesting. But the hurricane came in faster than they expected so we left yesterday afternoon since I still wanted to pull my boat out of the Delaware River which they are now predicting to come up 20-22 feet where I keep my boat. They always say that the flooding kills more people than the wind from a hurricane so don't take any risks with water covered roads and if you're in a low lying area in the northeast, head for higher ground. We've had some record amount of rain the past 2 weeks and the ground is already saturated so 8-12" of rain has no place to go. Everyone stay safe!

Re: Hurricane Irene
We had planned to drive our '62 Corvette from Richmond to Carlisle yesterday, then looking at the forecast decided it might be best if we put it in the trailer and just drove it around after we got there. Yesterday I decided I'd better just keep my butt at home. Bummer

Re: Hurricane Irene
We're in Lancaster - 30 or so miles east of Carlisle. I took one of our cars out for a drive in the country this morning. It was cloudy, but nice. It's been raining pretty hard since about 1:00 PM though. Friday was great at Carlisle - nice day and pretty well attended.

Re: Hurricane Irene
We're about 30mi inland (west) of Asbury Park. The storm is just above us now and it's barely drizzling. We never woke up to any high winds last night but I did wake up to lakefront property. There's about 7 acres of flood plain behind us. Our second lot is completely under water and right now the water line is about 1-2in below the floor of my storage shed. The water is expected to rise more due to the runoff, so I expect I'll have a lot of parts drying and salvage once it goes back down. Thank goodness we didn't lose power because the sump pump is running constantly and it's keeping up. Without it, we'd have 4' of water in the basement.
It could have been a lot worse........ Verne http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...ateratshed.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...hwaterline.jpg |

Re: Hurricane Irene
Janet and I took a walk downtown. Peddie Lake has breached the damn and the little stream which would normally be about 10ft below the road was level with the lake. (this would be the stream that flows around the back of my property on the other side of the flood plain). The firehouse was flooded so the equipment was moved to higher ground. One idiot decided his car could float. The lake water is normally about 6ft below the stone wall around the parking lot. The police station is flooded along with the moving company behind it. The boro pumping station is also underwater so we'll be boiling our water for a while.
The water in the yard is actually starting to recede. One more inch and my parts shed would have been flooded. I'll try to post a slide show of some photos Verne |
Re: Hurricane Irene
It's just about finished here....few rain drops...no damage in our neighborhood Karen and Ia re going out for a ride to survey the town...stay tuned.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Never lost any power. Had the generator all set up and extension cords all pre-routed around the house, just in case.
Yesterday, we cleared the backyard of possible projectiles: trampoline, chairs, lawn darts, etc. I decided to leave the rope hammock hooked up between the two biggest trees in the yard. A little voice inside just said just "Leave it there." Glad I listened. The smaller of the two trees that the hammock was attached to, was blown over in the storm. The military grade climbing rope I used to hang the hammock with, slowly stretched and allowed the 40 foot tall, triple-trunk tree to spin slightly, steering it away from a direct hit on my daughters bedroom window. Instead, it landed gently on the bottom of the "V" portion of the roof, twenty feet away from her window. Sometimes it's good to listen to those voices! |
Re: Hurricane Irene
The only voices I ever hear are saying, "I told you so!!!"
Glad you listened to yours Steve and your daughter was safe! |

Brian </div></div> I was actually in Charlotte on Friday for work, amazingly there was no trace of the Hurricane located just to the east, just sunny and 95 degrees there. Flew in and out the same day with no issues. Jake |
Re: Hurricane Irene

Day 4. (not to be confused with day 2) I'll hopefully have some photos when I can get powered up. Even the camera is dead now. |

Sold my house in the village last year and now live off Noyac Road. My old house never lost power! Generator is working well though. |
