Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Right place, right time? Gotta love Craigslist sometimes.... We just bought what we feel is a great car. A one family owned '69 Camaro convertible with 78K orig miles. Really neat car, with a ton of great options. It's a 01B build, featuring the following options; 307/210hp with TH350 auto, tach/gauges, tilt wheel, remote mirror, P/S, P/drum Brakes. AM/8 track, rear antenna, rear defog, bumperettes, X11 trim, light group package and wire wheel covers. Car still retains original Uniroyal Tiger Paw spare and jack along with Protecto plate, warranty book & owners manual package. Car is Fathom Green with white std interior with white manual top. Have pics, need some help to load...thanks

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
See everybody - they are still hiding out there...keep looking.
That is a great looking car, amazing time capsule. No insult, it is a terrible color combination that actually doesnt look half bad on the Camaro. Great find and good luck with it. |
Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Nice car....rear defog on a convertible is really unusual. One nit-picky item....isn't the 307 rated at 200 hp instead of 210?
|
Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Wow! Nice looking car you got there and my favorite color! I'd put a set of Rally Wheels are on it and it would . . . be . . . done! I finally matured a few years ago and realized that not everything needs to run 12s to be fun!

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Thanks for the kind words everyone! Yes Bill, you are correct, it should be 200hp, not 210hp, as that was the earier 327 base motor. Pretty simple plans going forward, car is going to need exhaust, so will put the correct transverse dual system on it. Other than that, will do a super clean up on it, making sure to keep originality at the front of the line. I have a wheel & tire weakness, so will be changing between a few different combos. Redlines on 14 x 7 rallies, painted 14 x 7 steelies with dogdish and trim rings, a vintage set of 14 x 7 5 spokes and a set of 14 x 6 drum brake rallies with the optional bolt on center hubcaps. I will also remove the mudguards and the stick on door edge trim. Other than that, just need the good weather to come back and start driving it.

I think they really set the car apart (assuming they are original N95 caps).

Wire wheelcovers make the car in my opinion! My friend's dad bought a new '69 coupe in Cortez Silver, black top, black Houndstooth interior and wire wheelcovers, pinstripe whitewall tires. Classy. |

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
that is a really nice car. Best position for an 8 track I think too. remove the hubcaps before inserting the black sabbath tape in the deck though.

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Nah, you gotta switch those black plastic ones for the vintage stainless steel mudflaps.
Awesome car! |

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Well, again thanks for the kind comments. I just received the GM Canada print out and it answers a couple of the questions. For Kurt, the car is in fact a N95 wire wheel cover car, so the hubcaps are original. Rest assured that they will be part of the regularly rotated wheel tire combos. Most likely will add the correct pinstripe whitewalls to match the spare. Also of interest is the fact that it lists the original tire size as a F-70 x 14 white stripe. I was under the impression that the standard tire size was an E-70x14? Is this a convertible and SS application only? As to the rear antenna location, it would seem that the car was originally shipped without a radio. No mention of the U63 radio option. The original owners did own a GM dealership, so it is thought that the correct AM radio was added later, along with the rear antenna install. This would explain the incorrect positioning on the rear 1/4. I have the GM docs saved and can post them if someone can help out.
Thanks! Rick |
Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Rick sent the Gm of Canada report and I am having a little trouble converting it to a format that I can upload to this site. I'll figure it out soon enuff.

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Talk about some cool and unusual options, engine block heater (probably not unsual for Canadian cars)and a visor vanity mirror.

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Yes, some cool and unusual options for sure. Both the block heater and visor mirror are still present. The block heater cord still retains all the factory routing clips also.

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Rick - how bout some more shots including interior, under hood and under carriage/trunk?
|
Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
I always thought the 8 track was run through the radio.

And a close-up of the tire pressure label, if you can. |

Pinstripe F70s are going to look great on there, especially if you remove the mud flaps. |

There's nothing hi-po here, just ordered as a classy car. Cool on the hubcaps. E78's were standard on non-SS cars, F-70's were optional. http://www.camaros.org/pdf/options.pdf |
Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
Oops, E78 x 14, that's what I meant. Thanks Kurt!

Re: Not a Supercar, but a super car....
more pix from Rick with the following note...
Here are the engine and trunk shots. The car's original owners had a GM dealer and this was the wife's car. The car got a repaint early on in the 80's, and would appear a bit of detail spritzing occured. There is a bit of orange overspray touch up on the engine, as some can be seen on the fuel line, temp sensor and coil bracket. They also used some of that clear used car spray on areas like the fan shroud. The trunk also got a coat of black over top of the original spatter paint. You can see the texture of the spatter under the black paint. Really to bad. I will do a careful clean on the engine area doing what I can to remove any of the detail products and overspray. One neat thing to note is the transition area on the firewall where the blackout meets the color. There is a very noticable space between the two all the way along. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...143_resize.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...140_resize.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...139_resize.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...137_resize.jpg |
