1969 Impala SS 427

Not mine. It is sitting at my buddy Al's gas station in Flemington, NJ. The car is owned by the service manager at a local Chrysler dealership. I didn't take a photo of the trunk but it is really nice, in its original spatter paint. The fender skirts are in the trunk. The contact # in the window is for Al, the owner of the gas station. I have no idea what these cars go for, I am just posting what I saw today in case anyone is into big Chevies.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

That is a very fair price if in fact the car is real and not full of mud (notice the missing rear wheel well trim). I would love to own it and drive it! I see some things wrong under the hood but easily fixable. They are a great driving car and what can you get for that kind of money? Thanks for sharing.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

Is there supposed to be rear wheel well trim if it has fender skirts?
I think he has the original wheels and hubcaps, too.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

I had a 427 69 Caprice years ago ,and a 327 Impala, so this car is a bit special to me....

I think it sounds like a great deal...SS..427...air... looks like all there as far as the parts go...Have to check part numbers, but drivable, showable...Id detail the engine and drive it...

...maybe find a hide-away headlight set-up. I think that is so cool on these cars..and rare as heck !! Did they ever put the hide-aways on the Impalas???

cool air cleaner..probably rare as heck !!

I always was intrigued by the SS427 vs SS with 427 69 Imapalas..never really understtod exactly the difference actually...I guess this is only an SS with the 427??

Its a fake car guys. Been on craigslist a while now. Real 427 car but not a true SS.BTW you could only get a SS427 in 69 not a SS with a 427 as in the two previous years.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

So it originally came with that 427 but it was a regular Impala that he put the SS emblems on, and not an Impala SS?

(Sometimes I need a Chevrolet translator)

I guess that explains the price...

So you could get a plain Impala 427..or an SS427?....I thought the SS427 would have 'SS427 emblems'... ?? And not just the SS emblems? I guess that is a 67-8 thing also.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

OK Here it goes In 67-68 Z24 cars had ss427 badges but no Impala emblems. Regular ss cars said Impala but you could order the same 427 engine as was available in the Z24 cars....In 69 There was a regular Impala which you could get any 427 emgine desired But when You ordered the SS427 you got the 390 HP 427 which had the code LC or LD for the 425 horse...The 335 hp code LE which this car has could not come with the SS427 This engine was for the base impal or caprice. Everybody trys to make a fake ss in 69 if they have a 427 engine but very few know you could not get the LE boat anchor engine. Class is dismissed Just kidding!

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

For what it's worth the 1969 SS427 had no "SS427" badging like in the 2 previous years. In 69 the SS427 had a unique front grill which this car has and all other badging seems to be correct. The air cleaner however is not correct, looks like a second gen Z28 air cleaner. I have a friend here in IL that has quite a collection of SS427 Impalas and here are some pics of 2 of his cars, a 69 SS427 coupe, and a 69 SS427 convert. Notice the chrome trim strip across the trunk on the convert....was a convertible only trim piece.

Yep, you are right Steve. I missed that part in your original post.

Don, I believe the 390 horse story is somewhat like the hidden headlight story as far as not being available on the Impalas. Remember when everyone said you could NOT get A/C on an SS427? Now we see it all the time. The only reason I bring it up is I have seen two 69 SS427 Impalas with their original engines being the 335 hp version. The first one was a green/green 69 SS427 I located in Andover Auto Parts in 1981. The car was in the yard and complete minus the engine and trans. I grabbed all the SS emblems off of it (still have them today!) and the POP from the glove box. When I inquired about the car in the front office he informed me that when the car was brought it he pulled the engine and trans out and the engine was in the engine storage building. I purchased that complete motor for $400 and a few years later sold it to Harry Erickson in Mpls. I also gave him the POP. I looked the car over pretty well as I owned a 69 SS427 convert at that time and felt that the car was real but it did indeed have a VIN matching 335 hp 427. Oddly and adding more argument towards the confusion it also had drum brakes. All I am trying to say is never say never. I really have no idea why in 1981 someone would fake a green/green bench seat automatic car with all the emblems added on. This car was completely stock and had NO modifications. I have seen some strange things over the years and this was one of them. Just saying.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

I hear ya but I persoanally do not believe they came with the 335 horse engine...Just my opinion..Ive never seen a real one with skirts either. Ive see so many of these cars faked out. Im not ever buying one without a buildsheet period. BTW There has been a real documented red 4 speed car on ebay 3 times now thats a california car and he cant get 18k for that one.

Re: 1969 Impala SS 427

It looks like a nice car for the money, especially as a driver if you get rid of the wheel/tire combo. It would be hard to build as nice a clone for that money. I had a set of those buckets and console a few years ago that I sold for $1800. Apparently, that console in good shape is hard to come by.

The skirts were rare on the SS's but there is a fully documented by GM ,#'s match L72 M22 convertible with factory skirts getting restored up in Canada .
