Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
|
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
That was a closely guarded secret around the NE/KS area for years. I first tracked the place down back in about 1999. Looking at the auction list, a few of the best cars aren't even listed. Although I haven't been back there in ten years, so maybe a few got sold in between then and now.

Man sure wish I had a pile of spare rubles, sure would be nice to grab a few gems from them.

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
I wonder how many cars and trucks the dealer sold a year ? Its interesting that at the end of a model year , like the 1964 pickups , that they would be stored away and not marketed. My dad worked at a similar size dealer and they usually sold 120 to 150 cars and trucks a year.

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
that 58 Cameo has a nasty gash / dent on the roof ... I wonder if that is why it was never sold ...
|
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
Photos of what exactly they'll be selling off.
4th photo shows the 1 mile Cameo pickup & the dent on it's roof, which I'm told happened when the factory was off loading it from the delivery truck. http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/a...php?detail=135 |
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
Love the rectangular red Lambrecht Chevy painted sign, probably a lot more good stuff won't be seen unless there at the auction...or after?
The window sticker '64 is too cool exactly as is dirt and all, the whole story such a perfect example of a beautiful era and people! Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Lambrecht! ~ Pete |

----Am I the only one that wishes this gentleman would have found good storage for these great cars instead of basicly waliking away from them?.......Bill S

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
No, you are not the only one, Bill. Since these cars were completely neglected for so many years, you just know that there are cracked blocks, seized drivetrain components, insect/rodent infestation, etc. etc.

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
I'm glad someone else realizes what type of new cars will be at this auction. Low mileage does not mean much after all these years. The aspect of the archeology such as factory markings may have been erased after all theses years of neglected storage not to mention the cars that were stored outside. Overall an interesting auction for sure.

|
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
A friend is there and he says it is more crowded than a typical Barrett-Jackson and prices are crazy. He says it is sad to see all the brand new pickup trucks that were just left outside to rot away.

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
No way was this fellow concerned about preserving history . . . not with that neglect. Those cars were probably hidden away to avoid paying taxes on unsold cars at the end of the year!

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
Mark
You're right, but the story goes that he was an extremely savy new car dealer. When new car customers came with a trade in,he took their used vehicles to a nearby farm he owned and stored them there...forever,never to be resold. He wanted to sell new cars, not used,as the profit margin was greater for him,and he didn't have to worry about warranting used cars either. That's the way his mind worked. A few brand new & low mileage vehicles, like the '58 Cameo were delivered to him and were never titled. It's reported they needed some work done due to damage during delivery and were eventually neglected by him as time wore on. He was an extremely small dealership. |

Nor was Lambrecht the only small dealer in the area who operated on similar principles; there were several. Unfortunately, most of those other collections were either sold for scrap and crushed in the 80's or left to deteriorate until they were in worse condition than the cars in Pierce. Not an unusual practice in this part of the world. I looked at buying these cars with a partner back in about 1999. The numbers didn't work out, for obvious reasons. Even 15 years ago, most of these things were too rough even to make good parts cars. |

I couldn't possibly get drunk enough to think that POS was worth $27K Shaun has already posted some excellent, high quality photos of the event over on the Impala SS427 site. To me, it looks just like walking through an auto junkyard about 30 years ago. |

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
The Corvette pedal car was a 56-57 because of the side coves.

You're right Mark.
Has the distinct 56/57 tear drop door/fender w/o the vent. More history on Lambrechts plastic pedal car w/photo of his kids in it. http://www.myrideisme.com/Blog/kiddi...recht-auction/ |
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
I watched the auction on History Channel and I could not believe the prices. I thought for sure that the proxy bids on-line were shill bidders and prices would be less than bid on-line. People went crazy for rotted cars/trucks.
Apparently many of the cars/trucks had missing radiators, trim, tail gates from vandals/thieves over the years. What is everyone's opinion on what these prices do to the market for similar condition cars? Todd |
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
I will guarantee that there are a lot of on line flake bidders who won't be paying what they bid.
|
Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
wait till most of these buyers realize just adding gas will not get them going......

and it was not even a low mileage example. Way overpriced |
