Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
I have a couple of '69 carbs restored by Eric Jackson and I have considerably more than that tied up in each of them.

Keith , I'll take it..call you later

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
It should not have the cast in rear accelerator pump squirted boss. It looks like a later carb to me.

Agree.
Your air horn stamping says December 1969,but that secondary squirter boss on the main body says after February 1970 according to Eric,here... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthrea...a_re#Post535632 Suggests someone took a later main body and stamped an earlier date on the outside air horn. |
Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
Definitely a later carb. This is not the first I have heard of re-stamps and hokey carburetors coming out of Competition Carbs of LI NY

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
It appears the baseplate is a later one also. It's too thick between the secondary shaft and where the throttle bracker bolts.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
The base is actually a service unit for a 1966 carb (3246/3247/3613)--note the accelerator pump lever is the type with the slide-in stud instead of the screw-in stud.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
I don't know Bob but if you get to return the carb you are now trying to sell, he seems like a pretty reasonable fellow. He gauranteed it to be real, so sure there is some exposure and liability. It is his gauruntee, so good luck trying to influence his policy. At the end of the day I would want the most correct example for what I was expecting, but in your situation a refund seems to be ideal. I'm glad things appear to be on the right path for you.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
I also hope it works out for you Bill.
What I don't understand is how someone sells something, finds out it's not what the customer was told it was, THEN, the customer has to pay to ship it back!!! I just never understood that concept. If you buy something and don't like it.....that's different but to find out that it's not as it was represented to be is just wrong. Kurt |
Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
I agree with you on that Kurt. Bob should send a call tag for the carb. No ifs, ands, or buts. That would be the stand up way to handle it. Period.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
Maybe someone should send him a link to this thread and wake him up. He might just want to issue the call tag and save his reputation. In these days of the internet one cannot afford a bad rap as it spreads too quickly around the net. $50 is a far cry from what the lost business could cost him.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
Unfortunately he like many others can learn the hard way. My "Yenko buddies" have helped to make my business a success and in exchange I try and take care of them. Just ask Eric what his business has done with the help of us Yenko people.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
Competition Carbs is very short sighted - for $50.00 they get a black eye. I had a small problem with a carb that Eric did for me - he took care of it with lightening speed at his expense (including shipping both ways). Works perfectly now.

Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
I can't imagine this is the first time this has happened to him. I'm sure others are standing by the side lines and keep them mouths shut.
I let him know multiple times that carbs he had listed on Ebay were restamped and got the same reply stating the carbs come in as cores and they can't be responsible for the history of them. Eventually they sold to unknowing buyers. It is bad news any way you look at it. Jason |
Re: RESTORED HOLLEY 4557 1970 LS6 L78 CARB DEC.1969
I personally would put a thread up on every forum out there about this.
