Thoughts on this DZ stamping

Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
For comparison here is my LA Z verified by JM. This stamp with the elongated D was used for about a three week period at the LA plant. Yours looks like a more squared off D, but the Z is similar except for the top leg. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics..._1680_copy.jpg

Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
Contact KurtS.
I have seen that square D before, but can't tell you what weeks it was used. Also, there can be two DZ engines assembled the same day with differing stamps. There were two lines going at the same time according to JohnZ. |
Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
thanks Lynn - I have contacted Kurt by PM, waiting to hear. ngtflyr's 'D' is the one I am used to seeing - thanks for posting that...

Anybody have opinions?

Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
It doesn't look like the block has been decked, it looks correct. I have had many DZ blocks, sometimes the D is different like these 2 photos shown

Is there a Vin stamping on the block and what's it like? Also not that this one is but the short bottom Z has been seen on known restamps. How's things Des? ~ Pete |
Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
Still trying to get a VIN stamping Pete...it's there down by the oil filter, trying to get the camera to pick it up...mostly 19N? ?5650 I think. My best guess right now is 19N705650

Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
or 19N705565 - that end zero I am seeing may be an optical illusion

</div></div> Not sure how that relates since the DZ was stamped at Tonawanda. |

Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
yes it is a bit of a "now you see it..." situation
it's a nice engine...came out of a low-mile car. paint daubs still on crank and rods. real nice virgin bores. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...69_z28_086.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...69_z28_089.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...69_z28_085.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...69_z28_084.jpg |
Re: Thoughts on this DZ stamping
That's a better vin stamp than mine.I'm lucky to read two numbers and the letter N.Most of the stampings down by the oil filter are hard to read, if you can at all...
