Q for Nova Guys
What do the Nova experts think about what this gentleman has explained on this car?
|
Re: Q for Nova Guys
The car obviously has SS features like power disc brakes, dual exhaust, 12 bolt w/multi leaf rear...the dual fuel lines would indicate a 350hp L-34 if it is a factory big block car. I would focus on the trans and rear to see if they are original..assembly date on rear should align with cowl tag..,if the tranny is original it will be a TH400..check to see if it has the aluminum plate on pass. side..the code is unique...there should also be a VIN stamp.if it has a "W" and matches dash VIN...that will be conclusive..TH400 was only available with the BB in Nova.

Much appreciated Wilma.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Damn the description in the ad is very hard on the eyes.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Dave,
I you want to read it copy the description to WORD, then reduce the character size. Martin |

One great way to see if a Nova or Camaro came with Bigblock and TH400 is the trans cross member, it should then be the oval tube kind.
I adjusted the brightness of one image in the add and it looks to me as it isn't a TH400 cross member, it could be a crossmember for a 4-speed and they were different for bigblocks in Camaro and Novas, see here: http://www.camaros.org/trans.shtml#Crossmembers Anyway it has telltales of being an SS and BigBlock, the heater cover can easily be changed but not many do it. Re: Q for Nova Guys
Good catch on the tranny cross member...I didn't scroll down in the ad to those photos. The photo clearly shows a TH350 transmission....you can see the vacuum modulator in the right rear of the trans...the TH400 modulator is in the front right and wouldn't be visible from that view. So, that doesn't help things...this might have been a 4 speed car that was converted to automatic or the factory motor/trans were replaced...the interior photo has a big tach covering the dash area, so I can't see if there was a shift pattern indicator in the bezel.. I have attached a photo showing the TH350 modulator...after looking at the rest of the photos and the condition...I don't think much of this vehicle...needs too much work and too much is missing.
**cowl tag says 731...this was a std. black vinyl bench with rubber floor mat...you can see the std. door panels in the photo. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...21-8112-th.jpg wilma |
Re: Q for Nova Guys
someday I'll know all this stuff and not have to ask! Thanks again all. Just on the hunt for the next BB project. I do want a project car but would prefer it was 90% all there.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Will need a lot of money thrown into it for sure!Curious to see what the reserve is?
|
Re: Q for Nova Guys
The radiator is being held in by a small block top mount that looks as old as the rest of the car.
|
Re: Q for Nova Guys
Writing on rad support says "71 or 72 rad support", therefore a small block support was installed at one time.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Run away quickly.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Was re-listed on Ebay and sold for $5950.00.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Tom most likely has a Big Block car nicely done and ready to go that you could just drive and enjoy, for less money than rebuilding a car.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Still on the hunt for that next project..... at the risk of losing this car to someone, what are the experts thoughts on this description?
Vehicle Description Rare 1970 Nova factory two tone rpo coded paint black top and a hunter green metallic bottom. Paint has been freshened up within the past 6 months and only needs a few issues on interior fixed. Interior is really good for original but has a few door panels ect that need freshening. For those that dont know, in 1970 there was originally thought to be no two toned novas, This was a late 71 build and was stamped with a 1971 two tone code. The hunter green metallic was reserved for only SS and loaded cars and this one was neither. This only means it had to be ordered by someone high up at GM or a govt ordered car. There is no COPO code on cowl but it did have color match bumpers and dog dish rallies on it. I bought the car in boxes from 2nd owner who owned car since 1981.The car is a bucket seat manual car and has original cowl tag included. The engine #S match and has been completely built to the best a 350 could be without being stroked. The car is unbelievably fast and just needs a few things to be a show car or sunday driver. All paint and undercoating redone, fresh rebuilt 4 sp m20 MUNCIE installed, and car is a factory posi car. This car is stunning and we are in the process of cutting out the paint right now. New headers and duel side pipe exhaust has been installed. This car is loud and proud and very much a piece of GM history. This is truly a stripped out factory ordered muscle car that would make a great addition to any collection!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-8587-nova.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8588-nova2.jpg |
Re: Q for Nova Guys
I'm no Nova expert but, I call BS on that one. I thought two toned paint cars appeared to have a vinyl roof but, that roof was actually paint. The two toned treatment on this Nova looks more like a Foose Overhaulin' treatment. I also have never heard of any Novas coming from the factory with painted bumpers. Sounds like someone's old hot rod that is being passed off as some kind of one-off factory deal.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Thought the whole description was more "wishful thinking." But, she has a killer look! I'd love to have someone knowledgeable and close check her out before I pulled the trigger. BTW, happy belated B'day Dave, we share the day.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
looks like a Mennonite hot rod!

Re: Q for Nova Guys
Same car has been discussed on Steve's...it's all nonsense.

This is getting a bit disheartening........... Every car I seem to gravitate to you folks shoot down. By the way, it's greatly appreciated!!

Re: Q for Nova Guys
What do you like about this car to gravitate to it?
|
Re: Q for Nova Guys
Like the color(s)/dogdish combo. I like the bumpers, 4 speed, NM and "<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">potential</span></span></span>" novelty. Again, really wanting a "project" nova/chevelle, mid - high collectability. All there, but needs work. I've built / am building touring/street cars, now looking for more of an investment, but a builder.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
I love novas and have a survivor 69 SS BUT as an investment for time and money spent...........questionable. Stick with 69 camaros of any variety for money spent, returned etc. Just my opinion and my observation on these cars.
|
Re: Q for Nova Guys
If it is a rust-free car, that price is awful decent. Call me skeptical though.

Re: Q for Nova Guys
I have a 427 cu. in a 1972 nova . How do you switch the heater core for clearance?

Go to a auto parts store and buy a 70 Nova BBC heater core. Pull the SBC heater core out. Line the BBC heater core outlets up on the heater core to the cover and drill/punch them out. When I had my Nova....I used a Greenlee punch. Or buy a repop.... Heater Core Cover Kurt |

Re: Q for Nova Guys
All of the above suggestions will work. You may need to modify the blue retaining clips that hold the core firmly in the box.
|
Re: Q for Nova Guys
If it is an original cover, it should have dimples where the holes need to be drilled.

I have a good solid '69 Chevelle L78 project available. Numbers match and Original POP. |
