Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
Others here would know better but has anything like them ever been known to exist also has the seller specifically indicated they hung in Canonsburg or one of the Yenko Network dealer locations? Super cool signs Chris but personally I'd be doubtful of them being original Yenko items especially w/ eBay description using suspicious wording like 'silk screened but not a decal reproduction' etc? Either way, they'd look fantastic lit up/hanging in anyone's shop but unless some genuine provenance can back up a solid Yenko history, best consider them very cool reproduction novelty items? Those are cool!

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
I saw these on ebay and must admit I question the authenticity of them. I've NEVER seen a "reserved" R beside the Yenko logo on any original/vintage items. I've also never seen photos or heard of these signs existing at the dealership. Did the seller explain how he got them?

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
hi
thx for the messages my understanding is that they are from the Canonsburg dealership and extremely rare no sure about other Network dealers having these....highly doubt that there are any more others like them known to exist? maybe someone else would know i do know that i am head over heels to get these for my new show room shop regards |
Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
What size are these signs? ... ( 36" X 36" ) ... ( 24" X 36" ) ..... just a guess |
Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
I am afraid I agree with Joe B on this one..BKH

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
I have never seen Yenko use the term "Super Cars" either. sYc was "Yenko Sportscars"...and was actually a separate entity from Yenko Chevrolet. I'm very skeptical of the legitimacy of these. Cool looking "retro-style" signs, but I don't believe they ever hung in the Canonsburg dealership.

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
Heres a cool one hung at Yenko. I'd love to put it in my garage.

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
I saw these as well on Ebay and was very interested, but as the bids got pretty high I dropped out as I was unsure if they were legit. One of the signs is dated 1970 and the other is dated 1974. Regardless of the origin they are nice looking signs and will look great hanging in a shop.
Here are the 2 links. Seller never says they came from Canonsburg, but they do look like older signs. Yenko sign 1 Yenko sign 2 |
Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
That's alot of Jing for signs that are questionable at best. They are beautiful thou and as long as the buyer is happy then no big deal I guess.. I too do not believe they are from the dealer to be honest..Why would they have a yenko tuned sign anyway? I can see the decal for a car but I wouldn't think they would need a sign promoting that in the shop. I smell a rat here.

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
You may want to look closely at the ballast or other electrical components inside the sign as there may be a date or possible part number and possibly a U.L. sticker with a number on it ..... maybe even a manufacturer's name. That may give you more insight as to when they were built. .... However, they do look really cool. |
Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
Congrats Chris and I hope they are real!

Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
"Cool" or not, there is no way to I believe these are legit. Chris is a good guy and I hate to see him get burned. They look to me like old light up sign fixtures with new "aged" logos added to them. I have many period photos of the dealership, and while they admitedly don't cover every square inch of the place I have never seen nor heard of either of these signs ever existing...not to mention the other oddities about the context of the wording noted earlier.
There are still ex-Yenko employees around who would definitely recall these (or any other) signs being there...Warren D. comes to mind... I would be tracking him down (or any other ex-employees) and asking, but I can already guess what the answer will be. |
Re: Yenko memorabilia and Thorstad Chevrolet
Joe I agree Chris is a first rate guy, BUT that does not give people the right to sell these signs as legit. I have been in the old Yenko Canonsburg store, the McMurray store and even Yenko Honda and other buildings. I was given access to Dons personal office, the storage buildings, and even the attics at Canonsburg looking for treasures, and there were lots of very neat items. I NEVER EVER saw a light up Yenko sign. This was in the days when most people could care less about Yenko cars let alone the memorabilia. IMO these are nothing more than a novelty item, but the seller made some grey claims about Canonsburg etc. I would hang them in may place but not as original memorabilia. Ebay is full of BS items and sellers. I have seen more Yenko crap on ebay than I care to see. Real Yenko items like a lighted sign with heritage would command high bucks. Seeing two signs like these hit the bay in one week is extremely unlikely. Sorry if I am stepping out of bounds here, and if Chris is happy with them so be it. ..BKH
