talked to him at mecum when it was for sale then. Sat he told me $175000.00

L78_Nova 11-20-2017 04:27 PM

My friend spoke with the owner of the Black Nova.. he may have more detail. I do not know the asking price.

Original Yenko sold L-78 car. He later purchased (Jan 82?) an Aluminum Yenko Block $2400 and sent it to Jenkins Competition to build. Jenkins bill shows Feb 82. $10,935.

But at that price you would figure he would have the correct headlight bezels. looking in the engine bay i think he had either a block heater or battery charger. not sure what the cord was for.

I looked at the car... Pretty cool ride..

My favorite though was the 68 Tripoli Turquoise Harrell/Gibb Nova. That is a cool car. My Wife and I talked to the owner for a while. Very nice gentleman and he really loves that car..

That is what this hobby is all about....

novadude 11-20-2017 07:45 PM

You would think it would have the right hubcaps at that price....

big gear head 11-20-2017 08:49 PM

Isn't that the same Gibb/Harrell Nova that was at SCR20?

L78_Nova 11-20-2017 08:56 PM

I believe so... He was wearing an SCR T shirt on Sunday

livettes 11-20-2017 09:00 PM

Yes he had the car at SCR 20. Great car! Great owner!

The Black Nova has been at the Mecum sale in Harrisburg for a couple years now, was always a cool car. But it Looks much better now that he took off the mismatched 15"& 16" Cragars

I was wondering. Truck caps?

Schonyenko2 11-21-2017 08:18 PM

The car was judged and the owner of the black Nova disagreed with the items flagged on the sheet. It then went to Bill Braun for resolution.

Mr.Nickey Nova 11-21-2017 09:33 PM

Bumper looked like a repop and so was the core support on the black Nova!!

ban617 11-22-2017 12:15 AM

The first thing I looked at was the radiator & it was a repro so I was then curious about the rest , I think it had the cheap door panels with custom seats , nice looking car tho ..

I haven't seen the trim tag, but most likely it was a std. interior car [cheap door panels] that needed new seat covers. Since they don't repro the 731 interior, most folks use the deluxe covers which are readily available. That would mean it also came with a rubber floor covering...most likely carpeted now.

All novas are junk except...............................mine. HAAA

Justbad Joe 11-22-2017 11:56 PM

Just saying Sammy, you would've had a good time with this car.
It was 731 interior on the trim tag.

Not sure why most restored novas seem to be second rate to a camaro or chevelle. I know they are low on the food chain but still deserve the same attention and doing it right.

The hobby has always focused more on the Camaro and Chevelle...the Nova has been the 'poor cousin'. I also don't think there is the interest in getting the details correct in most cases...obviously there are exceptions, since there are many sharp Nova folks on this site. But, overall the car just doesn't have the sex appeal of the others...personally I like it that way

Novas are great - also seem to be getting more love lately IMO.

I agree and I like it that way too. I think the one big area that I have always wished would have been designed differently was the quarter panel wheel radius. if it had been raised just another inch or so it would have given the Nova a completely different look in my opinion. I have a project 68 Nova that I plan on modifying the quarters on just for this reason (some day). Deeper wheel tubs from the factory would have been nice too... I wish I could have made it to MCACN. Maybe next year.

I like the idea! We had twins as I had two Black L78's as well but sold the automatic that another member here owns now!

BB Nova's have always been my favorite car. My first car in HS was an L34 4 speed Nova that I bought with paper route money! Mark
