67-69 Camaro Deck Lid / ID ??????
4 Attachment(s)
How do I ID the below deck lid as being GM or aftermarket repro ???
Could not find date code as shown in another current deck lid thread |
|
Joe, I had not seen the info at Camaros.Org...so thanks
I still need to look/find the date....I "think" this has never been on a car, as exterior is still black primer. Nothing in the linked article pointed out how the repro deck lids differ ???? |
I'm still wanting to determine what I have with my first gen Camaro deck lid ???
Cant see date anywhere Doesnt have any "hole" like the service replacement..... Seems like a new/never installed but I cant prove anything !!!!!! |
bump...
Has no stamped numbers/letters that I can see |
Date stamped will be in the area of the link posted previously. More than likely filled from heavy paint. But to narrow it down that lid was used between Jan-Feb to around April-May. Reasoning is it appears to have the TA holes as well as the tabs at the lip of the lid.
|
Do the repros have the TA holes ?
|
Yes but I have not seen a repo that has the tabs also. Not saying there isn’t any but I have not seen them.
|
Charley, I realize its been a few weeks but while searching for another topic I ran across this pic in a thread over on CRG. Repo lid without TA holes but without tabs.
http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=3752.0 Also compare the stamping contour in the emblem location. http://www.protouring.se/files/z28_trunklid.jpg REPO http://www.protouring.se/files/oer_trunklid.jpg |
Still like to ID this Deck Lid as ORIGINAL GM.....and ask estimated value ???
NOT for sale on this site Any Experts help me with their thoughts WHAT.Where are the "TABS" ??? [email protected] |
Chuck, can you see a date stamp on it anywhere? All GM sheet metal had a date.....Joe
|
Dang Darrell, I'm not seeing the tabs and know what they should look like. There was a short period of time when the bumps were there but no tabs. I see what seems like a slight bump out or reflection but I'm not sure there are any tabs there????
|
Joe, When I took pics and first posted, I could NOT FIND/SEE any date stamp....Could it be covered over with primer and white paint ??? Who knows...........
Sure would like a conclusion on what I have and estimated value ????? Thanks for your time and reply |
The tabs are at the lip where it folds over onto the inner structure. That was how the skin was attached at the back. Here's a pic of mine. You can can barely see 2 tabs peaking out from under the burn blanket. In your original pic, I see the raised area of 2 on yours, but they aren't as defined because of sealer and paint.
My lid is an over the counter replacement from a very early crash repair and has no date stamp either. My lid looks identical to your pics. I did find what may be an inspector stamp of "L" on 1 rib of the bottom side, but that is all. https://www.yenko.net/forum/cache.ph...2FDSC00609.JPG |

I also stated previously that all GM deck lids have welded nuts visible inside the bolt holes unless someone can prove me wrong. https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=143742 |
When did the repro lids first appear ?

The one I have was bought in 1994 from Year One and they rated it #3 quality. It is on the car now and fits decent. Mitch, why did you weld on your deck lid? |

https://www.yenko.net/forum/cache.ph...2FDSC00606.JPG I, also, lied about it not having a date code. I forgot about this.. and have no idea what it stands for. https://www.yenko.net/forum/cache.ph...2FDSC00657.JPG Mine does not have the extra hole associated with an over the counter lid, as referenced in CRG. It does have an extra slot, assume, for moving the emblem up with a spoiler ? https://www.yenko.net/forum/cache.ph...2FDSC00656.JPG Interestingly, it has no mounting holes for the emblem and never did have. Maybe it was an used lid from a Firebird when the car was repaired ? Lord knows, it had plenty of dents on the top side, that would not have been related to a right rear collision. https://www.yenko.net/forum/cache.ph...2FDSC00659.JPG |

The long-gone nos deck lid that was pictured @ Heartbeat City shows no emblem holes nor any tabs unless hidden.
|
But that was an over the counter replacement with the extra slot in the center. Mine doesn't have that.

I needed the holes |
Hogdaddy, My bolt holes (White PAinted Lid) look nothing like yours, where I see a square nut...............I still dont comprehend the "tabs" that people have spoken about....
Any further thoughts on my lid being original GM ??? or absolutely NOT ???????? |

Those tabs are not on later deck lids per CRG. CRG shows the many differences in deck lids over the years and they all have date codes. I believe I may be one of the first to point out that they all had nuts inside the bolt holes or maybe no one realized the aftermarket lids did not. Either way I am almost certain (99.9%) you have an aftermarket deck lid. |
