Found: 1967 Chevelle SS L35 Convertible

Quick backstory, I have wanted a Marina blue 1967 Chevelle SS convertible almost my whole life as my parents owned quite a few Marina blue convertible 67's in the past. My buddy snagged this car off of an eBay BIN the other day and I was fortunate enough to be able to talk him out of it before he became attached to it. It's exactly what I wanted all these years. I'm going to clean it up, fix a few things, and drive the wheels off of it! It has its numbers matching born with drive train with the Protecto plate. 396-325hp, M20 Muncie 4 speed, and 3.31 posi rear. Options include tach, gauges, buckets, console, rear antenna, front bumper guards, and power top. Last inspection was 1993. 2 owners. I'll be updating this post as I go along.

Awesome! Congrats. I wish I could see your pics, but whatever hosting site you're using is blocked here at work. I'll have to check them out when I get home.

Congrats, always great to find a car that gives us a connection to something in our past.

My neighbor had a '67 SS with a built 427, orange with a black vinyl top, 4 spd, etc. that was built by his buddies for racing and he put it on the street. When he started it up it shook the windows of my parents house across the street. Man, that thing was killer, and if I get that chance I'd totally buy one and Day Two it. Looking forward to your build.

Saw that on Facebook. Very sweet find indeed. We just finished up a similar car to yours though not nearly as nice. Well worn and driven driver quality car but still fun.

Congrats on a great find! What's not to love about a soft-top '67 Chevelle?!

Rick, it's great to see you working an earlier A body through your shop too!

Marina Blue wheels might mean it was delivered new with dog dish caps!

NorCam 05-08-2018 12:23 AM

Great score Matt, and such an excellent color to boot.

Did they drill holes in the front bumper to mount the yellow fog lights?

cook_dw 05-08-2018 11:44 AM

Congrats Matt. Hope every good and hard working person is able to get their dream car at some point in their life.

Of course they did. Bumper looks like it took a slight tap, so I'll be changing it with a nice original pretty soon.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Had a good friend set me up with a set of 1967 mag caps while I'm on the hunt for a set of dog dish caps. I just washed the car and quickly cleaned up the interior. Currently working on getting the car running. Also looking for a 7027201 carburetor core.

mockingbird812 05-08-2018 07:04 PM

Now that's a good look!:cool2:

big gear head 05-08-2018 07:44 PM

Missed it by one number. I've got a 7029201 core, or most of one. when I had my first '67 SS Chevelle I took the original Q-Jet off of it and threw it away. The stupid things that I did when I was younger!

markinnaples 05-08-2018 08:56 PM

Very nice.

Bill Pritchard 05-08-2018 10:07 PM

Nice find! By any chance, was that car still with the original owner in PA about 20 years ago?

I believe it was. Last title change was 2008 for 2nd owner so I would assume it was.

Bill Pritchard 05-08-2018 10:11 PM

I'll bet it's the same car I tried to buy in about 1999. OO had it advertised, but then when I was getting serious, he got cold feet about selling.

69LM1 05-08-2018 10:52 PM

Great score....

JpMotorsports 05-09-2018 08:18 PM

Amazing car! Plus its a 67! It looks so good cleaned up. I just sold my 67 Dog Dishes not too long ago. If I still had them I would have sold them to you.

Quick update, got the car running but it had a dead miss which caused an explosion down stream and blew apart the rusty muffler in a massive explosion. I don't think that any mice survived that were living in that muffler. I pulled the driver's side valve cover and had 2 stuck open exhaust valves on #3 and #7 cylinders. Pulled the heads and they are now at the machine shop.

big gear head 05-10-2018 12:51 AM

What is that under the cover that you are using for a work bench? That jack handle looks the same as mine; 3 ton low profile Harbor Freight.

That would be the smart way, and what I'd probably do today. I just remember messing with these in my younger days, when I never stopped think of such things! LOL
