70 Z28: can’t remember if CTB is stick or auto. Built June 6th. Is there a vin stamped by the oil filter boss, or the deck? Would be nice to reunite it with the car if it still exists!
Buddy
Edit. CTB is stick shift, CTC is turbo 400.

Block casting date will help ID it.

It should be a V0606CTB please recheck it? or post a picture? CTB is for a 70 z28 4 speed car. 1970 Z28 motors were built in flint Michigan and begin with a V. The assembly date is June 6th 1970. Also a partial vin should be stamped on the rough cast near oil filter if for a Norwood built car. If it was a Vannuys car it's on the front pad where the stamp your questioning is.

Tracker1 01-02-2019 12:13 AM

A Tonawanda built 1970 LT1 Z28 engine? I've never seen one, only Flints with a ' V '

You'd think a guy with a '70 Deuce who has been buying up LT1 parts here in the parts-for-sale section would know.....

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

BCreekDave 01-02-2019 01:46 AM

I’ve read that Flint was the only foundry that had the tooling to unshroud the 2.02 valves, so all Tonawanda small blocks were limited to 1.94 and smaller intake valves. Can anybody confirm this?

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 01-02-2019 07:22 PM

CTB is indeed a '70 350/360HP for the Z28's unless it has a Nova VIN which makes it a COPO 9010 application.

If the OP relays the rest of the info from this engine, it could end up being one of the other CTB Suffix applications which may also jive w/ the Tonawanda build...72-75 400 SBC or '78 Monza 305?
:hmmm:

TRACKER1
i dont need your smart ass remarks...thx
your the kind of guy that drives individuals off sites like this as you believe you know it all.........and have the right to judge other members!

the rest of you members trying to help
the prefix is definitely "T0606CTB" and not "V0606CTB"...and that was why i was questioning it......did not make sense to me

as i stated it is a 1970 "0010" 4 bolt bolt and this is the prefix up on the front pad

i do NOT claim to be an expert/ never have and still learning from some members kind enough to help me

i will try to get a clear pic of the prefix stamping

regards
chris

BCreekDave 01-02-2019 08:39 PM

Very interesting.

Is your belief that this is supposed to be an LT-1 spec engine? Does it appear reasonably stock or is it just the block? Is it a 4 bolt main block?

You probably already know that 010 blocks were used just about in every small block application through the 70's, so that doesn't tell us much.

If it a long block I'd like to see the combustion chambers to see if they've been cut for the intake valve unshrouding.

ronzz572 01-02-2019 09:36 PM

I want to add yenko deuce also has the CTB in 1970. Now a partial vin would determine a car line for the engine.

madden 01-02-2019 09:45 PM

hi

completely stock (exception of headers/ carb and distributor) and was all together in my car
just took it out of the car and disassembling to re-bearing and ring at the same time as freshing my yenko deuce LT1 engine

yes it is a 4 bolt main block
block also has 010 and 020 marking on it

LT1????? ...........i dont know
202 heads on it 2110 intake
1182 crank

will be taking the heads off this week to look at them/ the rods and pistons
rods are marked "X" on the caps (as i do have the pan off the engine

thx
chris

Chris:

See if you can get a clear pic of the casting date. Usually on the back part of the block close to the bell housing flange, on passenger side.

That and a good pic of the engine assembly stamp would help.

madden 01-02-2019 10:17 PM

hi

will do

thank you

regards
chris

rszmjt 01-02-2019 10:59 PM

If it is a 70 Z block it should have 2482 on center 3 main caps. Tonawanda blocks have no 1/4” front plug just above timing cover, but those can be tapped & installed. Also “X” rods are not correct, those were mid 70 issue.
How about posting a picture of pad Chris?

madden 01-02-2019 11:11 PM

hi
as mention prior

will get pics...but wont be until weekend...as im away til then

thx
chris

Jonesy 01-02-2019 11:21 PM

I'd like to see a good pic of that pad stamping. The T does not seem legit.

Tracker1 01-03-2019 12:32 AM

Here are the other small block 'CTB' Chevrolet codes:

1974 400cid /2bbl/150 horse (Cop cars)

1975 400 cid/4bbl/175 horse/turbo 400 (Chevelle/Monte Carlo)

1978 305 cid/ 145 horse/ 2bbl./TH350 (Monza)

By the way, I ask for help from guys here way more often than not because I do not "know it all". Happy New Year.

madden 01-03-2019 06:45 PM

2 internet sources state CTB for 1970

CTB 1970 350 high perf, 4 spd LT1 350 4 F X A

and

CTB 1970 350 350 4 high perf, 4 spd

will take pics of prefix and block casting # saturday morning

regards
chris

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 01-03-2019 07:21 PM

The 06B Deuces can get some funky stamps / date codes, although it would be quite unusual to see a 'T' on an engine that was assembled in 'V'. Once we see the pad stamp we will be able to tell more....

madden 01-03-2019 08:28 PM

will get pics saturday marlin......

i will e-mail them directly to you also

thx
chris

BCreekDave 01-03-2019 09:25 PM

Maybe the flint guys ran a bunch of bad engines so they stamped them with a "T" to blame it on Tonawanda!

PeteLeathersac 01-04-2019 12:46 AM

'

Make sure to get pics of the Vin stamping too!
:beers:
