Another Yenko being restored
2 Attachment(s)
This Yenko Corvair was sold new thru SPAN Inc. to Loren Reineking from Des Moines Iowa.Number 017. It has come back to the Des Moines area after 52 years and will soon be reunited with its original owner. Owners 2 and 3 are also from the area and in fact our part time mechanic worked on this car for his buddy, the 3rd owner in the mid 70s.

Cool deal....1st, 2nd, and 3rd owners! That is something special!!!
|
Very cool :)

That's awesome. Glad to see another one being restored. One of my old Stingers just sold last month for 200k plus the juice. I wish I was the seller!!!
|
That will be a cool piece when done especially with its history and the cool owners I look forward to seeing it

Was very educational as we have never restored a corvair here before. Technology ahead of its time.
|
race history?
Appears car was street driven early in life but eventually made its way to the track for fun events and track days. Never had a roll bar installed and was raced with a replacement block but came with the original block which will be rebuilt and put back in the car. VIN numbers on block match. Suppose I can Jerry to certify it? LOL
|
Interesting it still has the CORSA emblem on the glove box door. Typically they had those removed and the round Stinger emblem there. But with Stingers, that is not always the case. The right block will be dated from 1202 to 1207. No VIN on the Corvair blocks until 68
|
The block is dated 1202 RB. I may be thinking of that number instead of VIN then.
|
TI202RB is a correct block for that car

017 and boat

Wonder how many yenkos were used to tow around a boat. Betting not to many, especially stingers.
|
Andy, this is going to be a great project! Looking forward to see it come together!
|
Looks a lot closer than last time I seen it.

Original owner
It appears that the original owner of the number YS 017 1966 Stinger Corvair will be joining us at MCACN in 3 weeks. Looking forward to reuniting Loren with the car he ordered 53 years ago.
Don't miss this chance to see all 3 colors of Stingers along with the ONLY 1969 Yenko Stinger together for the first time ever. |
Looking forward to it. :3gears:
