'68 GTO 400HO/4-sp, Original Paint, Great Docs, 8,700 Miles

Not sure I believe the 8,700 mile claim, but the interior does look quite nice and not worn out. Aesthetically this one needs some love, but the original paint may be salvageable with some spot repair on the lower blackout areas, and a redo of the front bumper....

Anyway, nice to see a HO car so original and well documented even if it's rough around the edges.

I’m sorry, I’m going to have to call and get the back story. I need to know. The suspense is too much. Like any undisturbed artifact, I think this is soooo cooool!!!!

That front bumper deal is weird...never seen one bent "out", Might have happened rolling it off a trailer or someone tried to tow the car by hooking it through the bumper:hmmm:
Lots of cool original bits on this one. The lower pinstripe is a rarely seen option, though I don't think the lower blackout treatment was ever factory done. Could have been done at the dealer, though it doesn't show up on the paperwork. Probably done by the OO as a nod toward the Royal Bobcat paint scheme.

Boy that.checks a bunch of tickets for me! H.O., 4 speed, hood tach, V. Green, mostly original, ........!!!:biggthumpup::biggthumpup:

Hey Woj - what do you think?:cool2:

Woj 04-28-2019 01:32 PM

Yep Sam, this car does it for me. Looks fairly rusty to me, but would be worth bringing back to life. Very cool!!

I'd love to know the story behind this as well. Either it is really good, or the seller is good at baiting us.

resto4u 04-28-2019 03:25 PM

It would be easy too confirm mileage. Sold new in a small town, i am sure people know the car. And original owner could still live there.

scuncio 04-28-2019 04:29 PM

Lame! This was listed with a $25k opening bid last night, and the seller has since jacked it up to $30k.

scuncio 04-28-2019 04:44 PM

And now it's back down to $23k. Weird.

Now there are a few pics of it outside the garage. Also, there is no longer a buy-it-now. There are five bids and it's at $16,600.

I tried to get a hold of this seller yesterday. 2 phone calls and it kicks right to a VM box that is not set up. Seller did not respond to a text either.

Does not instill very much confidence

Paint match way off front end vs. rest of car, was it hit at some point.?

Seller says in the ad...

"Fender looks like a shade lighter because I rubbed the laquer to see it really "pop"...and thats' as far as I got."

Charley Lillard 04-30-2019 05:42 PM

I find that very hard to believe.

Rubbed the lower pin stripes and black paint right off too...…...

If it helps anyone,I work near Itasca and have been trying to communicate with the seller, but so far nothing.

mockingbird812 04-30-2019 07:44 PM

BIN just listed at ~$26K. Under carriage shots would be nice......

.....my humble opinion, so long as it is not a rust bucket and does in fact have orig drivetrain, this is a quite rare Poncho with the H.O. and 4 speed and good docs beyond PHS and worth the BIN. MIGHT get by with a good cleaning and having a nice cruiser/bruiser to move around in. Other opinions?????

scott s 04-30-2019 08:42 PM

Its on FB for 25k.

tjs44 04-30-2019 11:35 PM

This is how I look at it.What is a 68 HO car worth when restored, now what will it take to get this car there. This car is not a driver IMO as is.Looks like it has been hit, body work there and then at least a scratch and shoot after that to be a driver.I guess if you own your own body shop and could do the body and paint it might be worth his BIN.Tom

ScottG 04-30-2019 11:43 PM

The only way to get out of this deal is to do your own bodywork. It is a fairly rare car , but it is not a Ram Air II ..

No doubt! Maybe the car was used in a murder - as in he ran over someone with it - would explain the damage to the bumper.

:eek2:

Tidmack 05-01-2019 07:21 PM

I bit, and did a fair amount of research on this car. I can't find anything related to it being involved in a high profile murder. The seller says the story will increase the value of the car, but if the story can't be found online, how many of us are actually familiar with it and will even care?
