1967 Chevrolet SS427 - Triple Black - Docs - (mostly) Orig Paint
1967 Chevrolet "Impala" SS 427. I used quotes because a real (rare) SS427 was not actually sold as an impala, but as its own model, the SS427 (RPO Z24) as opposed to an Impala SS which could be bought with a 427. There were only 2,147 SS427 models built in '67 so you can imagine how rare it is to find one that's triple black as well.
Bought from this site a few years back from Chris. This SS427 was exactly as described by him. ---> Ad from 2017 https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthre...ighlight=SS427 This car was originally purchased by a young Doctor from Webb Chevrolet in Bowling Green Ky. There is no doubt he wanted to enjoy his passion of drag racing on the weekends when he ordered this sinister SS427. SS427, Check. 4-Speed, Check. 373 Posi Axle, Check. Black Exterior, Check. Black Interior, Console and Gauges, Check. Then top it off with Black Vinyl Top, Check. I will say that the only reason I do not call this SS427 a "survivor" is the replacement driveline. The SS427 retains its original rust free body and interior. The paint is 80% the original black lacquer (the hood was primed due to hail damage) and other than the CE block and transmission, all of the original parts were used such as the heads, carb, intake etc. The CE block is 351 casting, casting date is April 67. Engine may have 3k miles on overhaul, forged Pistons, howard's camshaft. 2 Buildsheets as well as original POP, period pics from the Doc racing, and the proper 4D on the trim tag along with the unrestored status all work together to authenticate the pedigree of this car. Easily one of the rarest cars of its era and one of the most sought after (when you can actually find one available). Add in the super rare triple black, and well desirable just does not cut it. This SS427 has a rust free straight body with excellent body lines. You'll notice that it has phenomenal Gaps and Fit of all the panels. To finish off the period look it's sitting on a set of original Crager S/S rims (original hubcaps which have never been on the car are in the trunk along with the original jack and spare which have also not touched the ground) . Likewise the fit on the interior of this SS427 is nothing short of awesome. The doors do not sag and everything shows little wear. The seats have two spots (on each one) where the seam threads have worn through. It has the bucket seats and console which houses the correct original Four Speed Shifter and (rare) console. The Speedometer, Tach all are working along with the fuel, oil, temp, and amp gauges. 115,000 miles. In short, this is one of the most desirable muscle cars of its era, in one of the most desirable color combinations in "almost" survivor condition. This car gets more attention at car shows then almost any frame off trailer queen. People gravitate to it like moths to a flame asking if its "real". Ill try and get some fresh pics but the car is unchanged other than a new (repop) fan shroud. Runs great and driven in 2017 and 2018 to Crusin' the Coast 60 miles away and driven for a full week while at the show, and then back, never any issues. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/eggAA...Js/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/SC0AA...KB/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Z1IAA...KD/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/XUYAA...KX/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fmYAA...Ka/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/~UsAA...Kb/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/cD4AA...aK1/s-l500.jpg The car is on Ebay right now as well as here and a few other places. $37,500 /Rich |

Crazy to think that low $30's could get you into a factory 427 car with 4 gears and a great color combo. Once again, the timing is awful for me, but this seems to be a whole lotta car for the money.

Great car!

I saw this car listed on another site. Given that the price was higher, I’m guessing that it was an unauthorized posting? They even used some of the photos in this thread.

Wow... They even used my description. I did get a call from someone at Classic Deals a while back that asked permission to market the car for sale for a 10% markup, which I said they could. Don't know who auto trader is, I'll buzz them. Thanks for the heads up!.
EDIT- Ok I see now, Classic Car Deals is Auto Trader. 49k huh? Some one should jump on this for my sale price! :) /R |
I'm confused, is a CE block, something aftermarket? is the engine not the "born with" engine?
what happened to the original engine/trans? |
"I will say that the only reason I do not call this SS427 a "survivor" is the replacement driveline" From the ad.
|
Correct, CE (counter exchange / chevrolet engine etc) is not the born with engine. This is a (somewhat) date correct replacement engine. Original owner liked to drag race (see pics) and blew the engine. Don't know if it was replaced under warranty or he had to buy it. Chris might know. That, the rims and the hood needing a repaint are the only reasons this is not a "true" survivor. But it's pretty darn original and a triple black car with paper and history.
Oh, and it's not 62k either :) /R |

From the origial owner, when i got it,it didnt run like it should so i ran it up in 3rd gear hard, spun 2 rods, dealer repalced crankshaft and 2 rods,it still didnt suit me and plus it now leaked oil. Next time i took it out,i finished it off and they had to replace shortblock.this was in april 67. Then his wife put an end to the racing, she told me "it was a $4k car and the nicest car we owned,we were still young ,the racing was over.it beacame his tow car for a 55 chevy race car he built.the 55 is still here locally also. She then proceeeded to make it her daily driver for the next 17 years. In 1990 it started to smoke due to a busted ring land and set on their carport for years.
I bought the car in 2012 or so,i done a complete brake job,had engine rebuilt and drove it everywhere.it never let me down, not once |
...
... That sounds like a real solid car and would be a blast to drive! Good luck with the sale. :3gears: :3gears: |
Is your SS427 still for sale? Luv this car!

No way you could ever get into a triple black SS427 even with the CE motor at this price point. If you've ever wanted one of these, this is the time. /Rich |
That’s a really good price for that car Rich! They say... Never ask a question that you don’t want the answer to. I shouldn’t have asked that right now because it’s bad timing for me! I missed out on this car once already, I just want to keep track of who owns it so I can own it one day.
It pains me to say it, but good luck on your sale, eh! |

I too missed out on this one last time and "should" jump on this and another 2 cars I know. Just can't right now. Good luck with the sale. Keep us posted. |
Sold to a member here.
Congrats! Now all of the guys will be calling and saying they should have pulled the trigger :) /Rich |
'
Awesome car and deal, big car congrats! :beers: ~ Pete . |
You can put me at the top of that list of disappointed guys... twice! I’ve had a photo of this gorgeous car pinned to my wall for some time, and hoped to pursue it once the Canada/US border opened back up. Congrats on the sale.
Glad to hear that it went to a member, and I hope they continue to preserve this car’s amazing original condition. |
Just an FYI...you can still ship cars across the border. You just can’t go and get them in person.
|
Yeah I realize that. I just saw that the border will remain closed until September 21st.
|
I’d bet it will be closed until next year...

Talked to a trucker the other day that regularly delivers to Sault Ste Marie. He loves it, no waiting in line at Customs, he zips right through.
