'69 RAIV GTO Convertible

Gorgeous...not a lot of IV convertibles out there - seller claims this is one of only 45 built. Probably moves out pretty well with the 3.90 gear....

I'm assuming the engine isn't the original since the seller doesn't mention it.

----What is the "Rally Stripe" the seller refers to?......Bill S

GTOs didn't come in "Midnight Green" in 1969 it was Verdoro Green. And, no, there was no "Rally Stripe" option on a 1969 GTO.

I believe Midnight Green was paint code 57 in '69. Rally Stripe was option 494 (69 PHS attached).

That being said, the color does look more Verdoro Green, especially in the corner trunk shot which shows the metallic in the paint.

Production totals:
45 manual trans of which 4 had the Judge option.
14 auto trans. Grand total: 59 RA IV Convertible '69 GTO's

I'd sure like to have it...

Love those wheels! And I normally prefer white letter tires on musclecars, but a set of redlines would really set those wheels off. Would make the car look like a "Hot Wheel". :)

I stand corrected. The Rally Stripes I have only ever seen on 1968s. They're on the bottom of the car along the rocker edge.

I thought all the RAIV have 4:33 rear gears?

No, 3.90s and 4.33s were your choices.

Tracker1 07-17-2019 04:10 PM

looks like Midnight Green was a Special Order color unless I am mis-interpreting SOLID SPECL @ 100.05 . I always associated it with big full size Pontiacs.

What's puzzling is 69 raiv firebirds only came with 390's you couldn't get 433. RA III Firebirds could be ordered with optional 433 ratio...Go figure the logic.

Im perplexed. If the RA IV's had to have a 3.90 gear as standard, why was it an option? And does the PHS spell out the RA IV? It just says ram air. Could this have been a RA III with the 3.90 option?

flyingn 07-17-2019 05:58 PM

and what is 'SCLID SPECL'?

I don't think that PHS is for this car. Perhaps shown as an example of the rally stripe option.

It says "Cordova top" (not convertible top) and appears to describe it as a GTO HT CPE, not a convertible.

Build sheet: Arlington VIN. Subject ebay car shows a Baltimore VIN.

My interpretation would be single (ie, "solid") color special paint.

Forgive me for "picking at nits" but, for $190,000 is it really that hard to get the shift ball straight on the stick?

Sorry, yes that was just an example of the Rally Stripe option.

Yes the PHS does spell out raiv code 347
