1967 "Black Panther" Camaro
|
I like it.
|
I have always liked these cars. Love the black and gold, especially with the gold interior. However, it seems whenever one comes up for sale, the seller has unreasonable expectations of value.
It would be different if it were a high performance model, but 210 horse 327? Assuming a PG trans... but don't know for sure. It isn't even an RS. I worked at Gandara Buick in OKC in the 70's. They sold a car that was dubbed the "Mini Riviera". It was nothing more than a two door Regal with an aftermarket padded vinyl roof and aftermarket porthole type quarter windows, coupled with three "Mini Riviera" badges; one on each side, and one on the dash. Think a used 70s "Mini Riviera" would bring a premium over a stock 70s Regal. They are rare. Rare doesn't always translate to valuable. I could go with a small premium over and above what a good clean 67 327 PG car would bring. The ones I have seen expect two to four times the $$. I HOPE this is a no reserve auction, just so we can see what it is really worth. I fear it has a reserve, and unless there are TWO folks that MUST have one, it will be a no sale. Will see. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to be proven wrong. Just my 2 cents. Hope I am not stepping on any toes here. |
I love the stance.

This Camaro is still owned by the original buyer which I am sure is thinking will increase the value. The car will have a reserve when it hits the auction block and as you stated, it will probably be much higher than anyone is willing to buy it for. Because what it is is a 1967 327/210 HP PG Camaro with some added bling. |

Such cool cars and this one may be the best remaining BP but you guys are right and not being a MkIV will hurt come bidding time. Here's the original Black Panther magazine article from Canada Track & Traffic also a few old pics. Love to hear more about Chevy Dealers other than Gorries that actually sold BP cars as mentioned in the article also specifics of the 12:1 CR single 4-Bbl. 427 w/ 435 Hp...paper #'s for advertising and stock L72's?:hmmm: :beers: ~ Pete . |

First two pics are Craig Fisher's Trans-Am Series Black Panther, B&W shot looks like it may be @ Mosport? Last one appears to be the same car @ a US Stock Car track w/ Pure sign in the background...location/event/Fisher?:hmmm: :beers: ~ Pete , |

The first picture is of Craig Fisher's car at Sebring for tech inspection, March 1967.
The last picture is of the same car at Daytona practicing prior to the Daytona 24 Hour race, early February 1967. The middle picture was taken in the UK in 1969. This was Craig Fisher's Z-28 and was used by him as a street car prior to him selling it to a racer from England. This car had a black interior and the other Z-28 seen in the other two photos had a gold interior. Note there is no roll bar in the car shown in England. Evidently the rules over there allowed you to race without one. |

Great info Jon and thanks for the update! I noticed the similarities/differences and thought the first two shots may be different cars also Daytona car the same one as the color pic...inboard/outboard hood pins the easiest difference to spot also a few other details. Thanks too for clarifying it's Craig Fisher in all the pics, is it known if either of these two cars exists today?:hmmm: Such cool cars and history! :beers: ~ Pete . |
The picture from 1969 in the UK does not have Craig Fisher behind the wheel, it is Craig Fisher's former street car. He sold it, after owning it for a few months, to a racer from England. It is not known if that car still exists but the other one from Daytona & Sebring still does.

I believe we talked about this car in this thread:
https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=154023 Post #20 Zedder said "I hope they can hit it big after believing for the past 20 years that the car is worth $250K" So this car was discussed in March of this year. I posted some MECUM "deals" I thought on the bottom of page 3. 4 NICE and sought after cars, nothing was over $57,200.00 US Wish them well and hope they get a good result. |

Sorry Zedder with the results. I also didn't think it would bring as much as it did either. I was about 10K low. Too bad you couldn't have gotten it before the auction.

Zedder, looking at some of the prices of the other cars there, seems it did very well.
The 1969 302 Boss Cougar was less, 1969 Hurst Olds was less, 1970 44 6 pac Challenger, 1971 454 Vette was less. So it was a premium over a bunch of cars. So in comparison with what was there, it did VERY WELL if you ask me (from what I seen online). I think once the owners see the comparables I think they will understand it did better then many others there. |
I agree,I talked to the owner of the Panther yesterday and he told me he was happy to get that price.
It went way past their Reserve, which was always in place to protect him. The family is very happy. :) |

Mark, I feel your pain. Just hate when you speak to someone about there stuff and make an educated and honest offer, and they think it's worth more. Then sell it for less to some nobody?
But "Barrett/Jackson-idis" is still a strong issue in this hobby that doesn't help us. I made a post in the general forum about this Mecum auction. there were a number of cars I "could" have bid on. Not sure if there better on the internet then real life, but seems like a bunch of well bought cars. As your aware, most of our local stuff in Ontario usually requires some rust work, and maybe these do too. But seems like there were some good buys to me, AND there posted with buyers premium. Posted about a '68 Mustang Coupe 390 with AC and a '74 Z28 with AC. But also WOULD HAVE BEEN on the '79 LIL RED EXPRESS that with buyers premium was 20,900. John |
The Black Panthers are very attractive cars but the vast majority were 327 2bbls. In the big picture, I agree with EZ that the car did very well to get that dollar figure.
