Bill and Jan Stephenson's 1967 427/400 Corvette
17 Attachment(s)
I will apologize now if this story isn't the shortest on record but some explanation is necessary.
I bought this 1967 Corvette coupe the 1st. time in 1976 Just outside Columbus Ohio and drove it home to Ft. Lauderdale. 3 years later Jan and I had moved to Hinsdale Il. and I reluctantly sold it to purchase our 1st home. 40 years later I have it back in our garage thru a bit of luck and a great California dealer, Corvette Mike. In 1976 when purchased, my Corvette had a scant 14,000 miles on it and today it only has 5000 or so more. Somewhere along the line of owners my coupe was sent to the Nabors Brothers in Houston for a restoration that it really didn't need, but at least it's a great restoration. Being a collector who likes highly optioned cars I fell for this Corvette immediately. There are 17 options on the paperwork with the most important being 427/400hp, 4-speed, bolt-on wheels and factory AC. Also high on my list are unusual color combinations, and as I'm a big fan of white this car pushed all my buttons. If there's a regret anywhere in my thoughts it would be that I added the sidepipes back in 1977. I wouldn't do it today even though I like sidepipes, but back then I was 29-30 years old and thought it was the cool thing to do. Many more good memories and stories revolve around this old Corvette. too many to go thru here, but stop and say hi at MCACN this fall and I'll probably bore you to death! Addendum: Bruce, Took both cars out of the garage today between rain storms. They used to be parked next to each other back in the 70's in both Ft. Lauderdale and Hinsdale. Now they are back together again. I thought the guys might also like to see the two together. Thanks, Bruce for all you do! Respectfully, Bill S (olredalert) |
Beautiful car. Must feel good having it back.
Congratulations Bill! What a car and what a pair!
wow, what a pair of vette's, also love the keychain
Bill I really enjoy visiting from time to time, checking out the latest and greatest in the garage is ok too.
This white car is really somhing!! It looks even better in person. You have to post a picture of the framed picture of this car back in the 70’s. Too bad you exchanged the COPO Chevelle, but you can’t have em all, or at least not all at the same time. Ryan W31 |
Wow - just wow. Love seeing the FLY license plate again - remember that one from the Hinsdale days. Congratulations on getting it back.
Nardi wheel? |

Hey Ryan - I think you can see it on the wall in the background of the picture of the underside on the lift. |
Wow! LOVE that car and the interior with headrests is awesome. White/Black Stinger is my kind of style...
Just Stunning, Beautiful cars, One Lucky Man!

Beautiful 67, and great to see it came around to you after many years apart. Love the options and I'm assuming the heads rests have to be rare as hens teeth.
Beautiful 67'. They really did check all of the boxes. Congrats on getting it back!!
Great cars Bill and Jan.
That Corvette is stunning!!
Beautiful automobiles to be sure Bill! Congrats on getting your old mount back!!
Bill, I saw the car at Bloomington last year. I love the white interior!
----Thanks to all for the kind comments!
----Steve, I didn't know the car was at BG last year. It looks better now that I have straightened out a few minor items. ----Jake, Figured you might remember the plate. The original went with the car and I had to hit E-bay to find another. ----There are three noticeable changes in the interior that I'd like to point out. ----1, The steering wheel is an extremely rare Nardi. The rareness comes from the fact that it has a Corvette bolt pattern. Bill Mitchell used these steering wheels on a few styling Corvettes modified at the Tech Center back in the 60s. I have had this wheel for over 30 years and never had it on a car until now. I have only ever seen one other one. ----2, The wooden Amco shift knob is the actual knob I had on my 1st. Corvette in 1966. ----3, the keychain was a gift from a good friend who knows that I am a collector of all, things "Nardi". Its the only one I have ever seen. |
Bill, does it still have the original BO wheel screwdriver?
Can see the sense in wanting that rascal back! Congrats on round 2!!
Guessing there can't be many 400 horse A/C headrest cars running around town ... |
