I know the car well as it had an Austin, TX owner for a number of years. I've driven it numerous times. It is a very nice car and was given excellent care by my friend.

Tim,

What a small world. I have a thick folder of Mike's receipts. He spent a lot of time and money improving the car. The garage he used seemed to know what they were doing. I am used to getting a car and having to unwrap a lot of other mechanics' work to get them right. This car did not need a lot of sorting.

I have only had this car 6 months and do not know it as well as most of my cars. If there is anything I have stated above that you believe to be inaccurate, I appreciate the correction.

Regards,
Nick

Here it is today on the correct tires, a big improvement over the fat radials in my opinion.

OE bolt-ons? Or newer repros?

Latest style repros.

Nick, your description was right on the money. Mike had the funds to have the car worked on and he liked to drive his cars. Whenever he had work done, he'd let me drive the car for evaluation. Tough job, but someone had to do it :-). He paid lots of money for the radials, he shaved the brand off and had the white stripe added. He did five of them in the event he damaged one. It looks much better with the correct tires in my opinion. I like what you have done.

Tim,

Your opinion means a lot to me, thanks for commenting.

I had tried to buy this car around 2010 from Greg Wyatt, which must have been the time Mike got it. I think Greg wanted ~$90K for it at the time, and that was excessive for a car without a tank sheet or recent judging. I never traveled to see it.

It surfaced on CF last year, with at least 2 owners between Mike and me. The person after Mike had the front suspension rebuilt with riveted-in ball joints and some light detailing. Then they had the Chevy dealer try to align it, so needless to say that was all wrong. I align my own, so after I rebuilt the rear spring and replaced a few bushings, I set it up to original (bias ply specs) and put on the Firestones. I am very impressed how it drives. The handling isn't as crisp as the radials, but the ride is better.

At this rate, I will have talked myself out of selling it before lunch.

Nick

Beautiful car, GLWS

TimG 05-09-2020 04:35 PM

I do remember the ball joints being bolted on, I have that issue on one of my 67's, but it drives so nice I'm hesitant to make the change to correct type. I remember the smog pump not being a 1967 issue. You may want to order the NCRS Shipping Data report as I'm sure it will confirm California delivery, unless this has allready been done. The pad looks wonderful, I have it in my data base from when Mike owned it. He offered it to me at an attractive price before returning it to Greg, I should have never let it leave (I'm happy you own it).

Beautiful Corvette! Good luck!

I will look at the receipts and see who did the control arms--they look very nice and definitely correct. I have had the service-replacement ball joints in all my other cars, as I drive them a lot and I trust MOOG parts.

The SDR confirms delivery new through Champion Chevrolet, Pasadena, CA.

One other thing I did recently was install a correct (welded) exhaust system.

I will post up pics of the undercarriage when the weather improves.

'

Cool it's from Champion Pasadena as only a few years previously, it was Service Chevrolet...Dyno Don Nicholson's sponsor also employer!
Can't say what the others are like but this Roadster makes at least 3x known existing '67 L79 cars delivered by Champion...the others Coupes?:hmmm:
Best of luck w/ the sale also congrats to anyone here who can make it theirs!
:beers:

The engine is stamped for a smog pump and the original dealer is in California, that's great confirmation.

I will note that I listed this car and my 911. Whichever sells first, the other is off the market.

I didn't like the way the windshield stainless fit to the cowl, so I pulled that off yesterday and massaged the clips to engage better. In the process, I confirmed there is no rust on the outside of the windshield frame, either.

Crush 05-14-2020 06:15 PM

Where’s the 911 listed?

SupremeDeluxe 05-23-2020 06:14 PM

I had a more knowledgeable Porsche friend take a look at my 911 and we think it’s probably the only 95 C4 that was hard loaded with heated sport seats, on board computer, and the M030 suspension from the factory. Basically an irreplaceable example. So I’m keeping that one.

sixt9rsx33 05-25-2020 01:32 PM

What a beautiful C2! You just don't see many Elkhart/Teal cars come up for sale. Especially an L79 Roadster CA car. Makes me scratch my head for sure. :hmmm:

SupremeDeluxe 06-05-2020 10:56 PM

Car will be listed on BAT shortly.

Thanks Tim.

I'm disappointed in myself for selling it, but with 2 little kids (1 and 4), my business, etc., I am moving cars around more than I am driving them. Needed to simplify. I am going to get a Porsche 991 or a C7 ZR1 I can enjoy every day, and keep my 993 for my weekend toy.

The good news is the buyer was happy with the car and has intentions to keep refining it and campaign it through the NCRS circuit.

Ha! I bought that one with 12,500 miles in 2009. Sold it locally in 2011 I think and bought it back in 2013 with 15,000 miles on it. I sold it In 2016 to an auto designer from Michigan who was working in California. He tagged it at home and shipped it to CA. He had a $1,200 detail job done on it and had that pic taken right afterwards. He sold it early last year to another guy in CA.

----Well,,,He had good taste too!......Bill S
