one was SS RS PS PB AC in Corvette Bronze

not many 1968 4 speed with 410 HP and air conditioning were built

Unreal 07-24-2020 09:38 PM

So when they put the L72 in it, how did they deal with the A/C?

x33rs 07-24-2020 09:56 PM

They didn't. I believe the ones that had AC got the hydraulic cam 390hp 427 that was relabeled 410 HP.

JoeC 07-26-2020 11:19 AM

this was something I tried to research years ago but it was difficult to collect the data needed on the 68's.

I believe the 1968 Yenko COPO 9737 Camaros were all L78 4 speed cars so a 1968 Yenko Camaro with AT or AC would have to be built from an SS RPO L34 or L35 Camaro

The L34 L35 short block would be swapped for a L36 short block

There was one 1968 Yenko non-COPO 9737 that was said to have a 140 speedo but I don't know if that was done by Chevy or added to the car by Yenko or someone else

Wow, in that add, the Stormer Z/28 was quite a jump in base price compared to a Yenko.

Here's Yenko's 09/68 Pittsburg Press Ad as posted a few years back in the Old Newspaper thread w/ 15x 68's available including 2xM40 cars, one 325 + one 425 HP also both listed as having 140 Speedos.
Whether ad mistake or 140 Speedos added by Yenko, I think Joe's exactly right and any '68 M40 Yenko would've been a factory Auto car w/ engine swap, not trans conversion thus no 9737 M40 Yenkos.

Any Stormers known to exist or even to have been built?

carnut4life 07-26-2020 09:06 PM

What ever happened to the 68 RS Yenko Camaro in the Bench Racing section of the 5/88 issue of Super Chevy? Was owned by William Yeater from Cameron, WV back then and had 7402.8 miles on it at the time.

The Ash Gold/Black Vinyl Top ‘68 Yenko Camaro in the newspaper ad sounds breathtaking!

How well did Yenko do with his Stormer program? Let's put it this way: The production of 427-powered Super Camaros that Yenko's shop built in 1967, at just 54 units, dwarfs the Stormer output, which amounted to two cars. One, painted red, was sold to Indianapolis Chevrolet dealer Bud Gates, who was part of Yenko's performance dealer network and already owned a Yenko Stinger Corvair. The second, in Marina Blue, was ordered by a Florida racer named Bill Boye who befriended Yenko while they raced Corvettes at the Nassau Speedweeks.

I'm not surprised to see the big difference in build numbers when you look at the price difference between the 427 cars and the Z. 54 to 2 LOL

If I saw those price differences back then I'd go right for a 427 too.

the Stormer was a race car and had a lot of work done to it

x33rs 07-27-2020 01:54 PM

Thanks for that Joe. That certainly helps to explain why.

The rally green car listed in the ad was was believed to be my 68 Non converted yenko. Also the 68 corvette bronze car - non converted as well, was also believed to be the non converted car acquired by tom biligan that was dealer transferred to to Kenny Ross Chev dealer.

JoeC 07-28-2020 10:56 AM

that ad shows 3 rally green 375HP Camaros with 140 speedo and 5 Corvette Bronze 375HP Camaros with 140 speedo

there were probably more then those eight 1968 COPO 9737 Camaros that went unconverted to 427 Super Camaros

the production number of 1968 COPO 9737 Camaros is thought to be about 70

The number of 1968 Yenko 427 Super Camaros built is said to be about 64

The number of 1968 Yenko 427 Super Camaros with AT or AC thought to be built from RPO L34 or L35 Camaros is at least 10

there were also a few early 1968 Yenko 427 Super Camaros built before the COPO 9737 Camaros were available

I don't know how good these numbers are because there was not a lot of info found on the 68's but those are the numbers we were working with

only two unconverted 1968 COPO 9737 Camaros found so there are probably more out there

enio45 07-28-2020 01:51 PM

The potential for the other non converted cars - i've been consistently looking for the past ten yrs or more since acquiring mine....obviously to no success.

The search continues :-), you never know.....
