Another '67 Chevy II L79...Wow!
This seller has some incredible cars...not one, but TWO documented '67 L79 Chevy IIs, and this one has its original engine, docs, etc. Incredible car with the price to match!

The Gold L79 has a 10-bolt while the other two cars have 12-bolts. I wonder what’s up with that?

The 67 cars have a cast intake. Do they have a Holley carb or Quadrajet?

They all have quadrajet's...Not sure why Dan Miller's car has a 10 bolt? I thought all 66 L79's had

From the research I did on these cars before, it is believed all of them were SS cars and had a very rare FQ rear (12 bolt 3.07 open).
Duer’s car is legit and a real gem, to say the least. But, anybody that would swear on anything of these cars may be crazy. |
Not all L79's were SS cars. Reggie Jackson had a NON SS White Coupe. No Ideal where it is

In my opinion, the only way for a car to be considered for sure one of the approximate 6 would be if it had its born with engine. I believe Duer’s old car is the only one to have both its original engine and POP. As I said in another thread, it is known for there to be more ZI POPs than GM made, with none (I think) having a born with engine to go with them. There were a few of these that were known to have a non-L79 327 original block stamp (ZA I think?). This led some expert(s) to think GM stamped POPs ZI by mistake.
I know this sounds very unusual. Normally, POPs are very reliable, but there is evidence in this case that backs this up. There are other identifiers of a probable true L79 for these cars that I won’t disclose. Again, in my opinion, could the other cars be true L79s? Yes, they could but without the original engine it could be argued by some that it could be a gamble. |
Isn't the transmission code on the POP a Saginaw? I would have thought a Muncie would be mandatory equipment behind an L79?

Not in 67 on the Chevy II's. There's a few similar configurations that were common on several that have surfaced and even a few that are suspect. All POP info on drivetrain pretty much match. ZI or ZA (suspect) all built around mid to end of June, all 12 bolt FQ - 3.07 open 12-bolt (327 Special Hi-Per)(except the Gold one I think), Saginaw trans, cast iron intakes with q-jet 4 barrels, and large balancer (some questionable ones have a small balancer). That's pretty much all there is to know to a degree outside of some internal data collecting I can't share.
The Turquoise one listed above (Jack Duer car) is hands down the nicest and well restored 67 Chevy II's known especially with born with drivetrain. Its the Chick Renn 68 Z of the 67 Chevy II world IMHO. Congrats to whoever buys it as its a special one indeed. The red one in the other listings is nice as well but there are few things that make me raise an eyebrow but still a great example of a 67 II. One more thing. Darrell is correct about the Saginaw. Like I’ve said before, these cars are an amazing conversation starter because of their oddities galore. The only thing I would add is that production did enter July as my car was 07A, which is a week later than the “claimed” red car being the last of the 6. Again, who knows?
