70.5 RS/Z28 on BaT

This oughta be one to watch....same owner since 1971, 11K miles. Has been repainted and some other fluffing, but owner seems like he has been incredibly attentive (perhaps too attentive???) in maintaining this car. He's only put on 1200 miles in his 50+ years of ownership.

Nice car but the front seat covers look like they were hastily installed.

Astock 08-10-2021 12:11 AM

Pictures in shade, first alarm. You can still see the color difference from the doors back. Owned the car for 50 years, I'm pretty sure the knowledgable owner knows the car came with 711 standard interior (can tell a mile away those seats have been redone). 11k miles, what bs. Whole car has been redone.

Too attentive is right w/ sanded TT also engine stampings look dental picked?:hmmm:
Eyeballs inspection best but info/pics/multi alterations suggest mileage claim may be suspect?

Norwood didn't stamp the VIN on the pad in '70.

AnthonyS 08-10-2021 12:38 AM

^ I wondered that myself…

Crush 08-10-2021 12:59 AM

So is it a restamp? And vin was added?

Billohio 08-10-2021 01:20 AM

I questioned the vin on the pad also. And didnt all 70 Z's have the 8 grand tach?
I wondered what those hood stripes look like in person, either scratched up or just dirt smeared. And those seats wow

McCune 08-10-2021 03:00 AM

Caution Fan says it all for me.

BCreekDave 08-10-2021 01:37 PM

Some of the explanations from the seller are getting a bit deep.

Bill Pritchard 08-10-2021 05:57 PM

If the seller is indeed fabricating some of his statements, he's really digging himself a hole.

mprice 08-10-2021 09:07 PM

I would normally sit by and just watch this ad but this guy is so full of crap. There is so many things that don't fit for this to be a low mileage same owner since 71 and some unlucky buyer is going to be pissed the first time a knowledgable person rips it for all the numerous changes since new. It has already bid higher the it deserves.

Mr70 08-10-2021 09:46 PM

Does a BAT buyer have a resolution center, similar to eBay,should a car turn out to be not as advertised once he goes to pick up/pay?

mprice 08-11-2021 01:41 AM

I couldn't say for I have zero experience with BAT.

RALLY 08-11-2021 01:47 AM

Lots of B.S ers out there. I know recently what i went thru.

Charlierogers 08-11-2021 01:57 AM

i am surprised you guys don't have a special section for rare cars that are rebodied, restamped, ect, ect, seems like a good idea to blackmark phony cars. or is that unethical?
charlie,

Jonesy 08-11-2021 02:04 AM

VIN should be down by oil filter. Lots of things dont add up to this being an 11K mile car.
Good to see people on that site who arent afraid to ask questions. :)

RSSSfan 08-15-2021 06:35 PM

Seller just posted a picture of the VIN and Date stamp for the transmission. Shouldn't the date stamp for a 1970 model end in A,B, or C, depending on if it's M20, M21 or M22?

TBH, I probably shouldn't be the guy talking about strange transmission stamps, because the VIN stamp on my car's transmission makes no sense at all. And it is original to the car.

That transmission stamping looks like a restamp to me. The area where the numbers are stamped has been messed with.I also think an April dated trans is quite a bit too early for this 06B car
Heres the stamping in question:

heres a legit stamping on a 1970 Camaro from Norwood. See the difference?

jwbavalon 08-15-2021 08:11 PM

High bid was $80,500 Reserve not met.

azcamaros 08-15-2021 08:11 PM

Reserve not met @ $80,500.00… WTF

juliosz 08-15-2021 08:27 PM

That’s wild!!! Can’t imagine anyone turning down money like that for this car.

Billohio 08-15-2021 09:03 PM

Owner must have had himself fooled.
Some things just didn't add up on that car

Maybe top bidder & seller are same person?

You can actually see another number showing faintly under it.

Billohio 08-16-2021 01:44 AM

That transmission stamp sure looks fresh and the area smooth.

70 copo 08-16-2021 12:20 PM

I agree 100% with the assessment of this car as made here.

The car has remarkable attention to detail in the presentation. Almost like they used MY car as the basis for the build.

RSSSfan 08-16-2021 11:13 PM

Seller is now saying that he sold it outside the auction for more than the high bid. Said he doesn't have a high opinion of any naysayers.

SuperNovaSS 08-16-2021 11:22 PM

I feel bad for the buyer.

On top of everything else the car is advertised as having the COPO "9697 spoiler" on it... but not specifically as being a "real" COPO 9796 factory equipped car A - big difference.

A car like this ruins it for all of the real cars that are out there.

Billohio 08-17-2021 01:33 AM

I don't think the vin is listed here.

The spoiler ends on the quarter panels fit way too good to be original 9796 ends.

Does your car have the Camaro by Chevrolet emblem on the trunk lid?

You are correct on the fitment of the spoiler ends.

You are also correct on the Trunk Emblem. My car? No.

He did replicate the squat appearance of the stripes on the rear spoiler though - I will award him that detail item.
