Why would he black spray bomb the undercarriage and the engine compartment if it was rust free?

CamaroNOS 09-14-2021 11:42 PM

If it is real, I would say so.

Like my buddy once said, "a true survivor is the best can of shut up" you can own.....lol.

The video shows it with a '72 dash. That's odd.

carnut4life 09-15-2021 01:17 AM

The 4x4 look made me wonder if it's a real survivor. I'm trying to help a buddy find a documented black 70 SS with a TH400 so I still look once in a while. Guess I should put a want ad up for him.

Dan and I have seen this car in person. At the time the motor was disassembled and out of it (all components appeared to be there in boxes). The car had a 468ci blower (as I recall) BB and decked out for drag racing (Dan will know better specs than me). Looked like very nice original paint, the original hood was off the car but with the parts. Not exactly a survivor in my mind given what we saw.

The makes sense, the rear looks like it was rocking a pair of ladder bars at some point in its life.

Wouldn't shock me. I don't think the car had ladder bars when we saw it. I don't have any of the pics but we do have them.

The seller did say he has the POP and Build Sheet.

scuncio 09-15-2021 02:57 AM

Saw that on FB too - looked like a fair price if it checks out. Had a crappy engine stamp picture, would have liked to see a clearer shot.

Richls5 09-15-2021 03:27 PM

Someone on fb just pointed out car is second week of March built...engine is stamped for april 🤔

Sigh. It continues…. and worse….for as many that see it or know it. More do not and it’s a down right shame!!

But also Shame on any potential Buyer for not doing his homework.

Someone decked the block and then restamped it and STILL couldn't get the date right....

Factory made an error on the 4?

Bill Pritchard 09-16-2021 01:22 AM

'Factory error'......yeah, when all else fails you can always pull that out of your a$$.

the427king 09-16-2021 04:01 AM

Wouldn't be the first time the factory made an error like that. I had a 67 that had a 8 for month when it was 3 on the POP, and an April build date.

Bill Pritchard 09-16-2021 04:16 AM

I don't doubt that errors were made on rare occasion, but unless one has some pretty ironclad proof of same, something like that is always going to raise a red flag.

It’s already sale pending that didn’t take long

Sean 09-17-2021 04:07 PM

I have built numerous motors in my life. Clearly the deck has been cut. Once you stamp that block there is no going back which that is one thing I will NEVER do.one thing I wondered is if the deck was bad and you had to take .010 off I would document it with a video for a fail safe solid proof. I mean it could have got hot etc and needs it. Now "OK" if it has paper and cks out cool. But do not lie when it is evident it has been stamped and the wrong number to boot.

the427king 09-17-2021 04:40 PM

The car was worth it, original motor or not.
