You can almost hear the Austin Powers music in the background, can’t you? So what do you do when you’re comin’ in HOT to 50yrs old? Simple. You buy a rolling extension of your manhood!:hmmm: Yes, with only about seven months left in my 40s, I figured it was time to venture into the unknown aspect of the classics for me: English Iron. I’ve had/have a Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, but nothing from across the North side of the pond, and what better way to satisfy that desire than a classic E-Type? Yes, I could have bought something nice and reliable, but what fun is that? Attachment 224017 Through a contact I have with my 507, I snatched this one up. 1968 Jaguar XKE featuring a 4.2 litre big six, three SU carburetors, and an electrical system that even makes its manufacturer cringe. Fortunately even when broken down on the side of the road, the “stop you in your tracks” loos that make the womenfolk weak in the knees  still make you look cool waiting for the tow truck to arrive. :hmmm: It’s the ultimate icon of the 60s British Invasion!!! Attachment 224018 More to come when it gets here next week. goggles Should have shipping info arranged today!:3gears: Cheers:beers: SuperDave |
Yeah baby!!!
|
Always loved the look of these. When I was a kid, My dads buddy had a green one with a V12! Look forward to learning more about yours
|
Daayumm!
|
They are beautiful cars, Dave. That looks like a nice one.
|
They are true styling classics!
Congratulations!!!!! |
Pretty awesome purchase Dave, congrats! That's going to be fun, much like an extremely dysfunctional relationship. When they goings good, it's a blast, but when there are problems, it's a nightmare, lol. Best of luck!

I turn 50 next month so I bought this :-)
Ryan W31/VW Love the Jag Baby!! I worked a few weeks at a factory feeding the Jaguar plant in Liverpool England fond memories. |
I'm in the club too! I turn 60 this year so I bought a Hellcat. So I guess it's my 3/4 life crisis car? :hmmm:
|
P.S. at least we know you'll have a really long unending thread on the Jag with all the fun electro-gremlins just waiting to ambush you.
Or you can convert it to 'lectric and instead of a key to start it you'd have a switch that said: Jag-On Jag-Off  |
You guys could be my kids. Wah, Wah, Wah.... turning 50. I've got corns older than you.
Enjoy. Wish I were 50 again. |

Dave,
I am excited for you. I'm not sure you have learned though. Making announcements before you have the vehicle in your possession have ended badly before. I really looked forward to that judge build too.......... Jason |
Ha! Right you're right Jason. So am I on the judge.:mad::mad: Still bent out of shape about that. But when you get a deal sold by a pretty reputable people, you can post things a tad in advance knowing it's a done deal. Crap, maybe I should have waited:hmmm::crazy:
Well, whatever. It's getting loaded on a shipper shortly and I have the title in my hand so I'm pretty sure this one will stick! So this thread has brought out some other midlife crisiseseses. More details when it gets here. Bought another something yesterday too of the German persuasion, but it's not classic enough to post:grin: Cheers Dave |
You're a glutton for punishment. I had a '68 Triumph Bonneville many years ago. That was enough Lucas electric for me.
Around here, you need a Harley for your manhood extension. I was 48 when I bought this new, with a 38 yr old wife and a 4 yr old son...:hmmm: https://hosting.photobucket.com/albu...=278&crop=fill |
I'm sure everything will be just fine. I feel like Jaguars are much like boats. The best day of your life are the day you get them and the day you sell them. The seller would be a fool to back out. In all seriousness, I'm stoked for your and you bought a good one. That wiring is a pain when cars sit unattended. As long as you use that baby, you will be fine.

Dave, go ahead and share that other German buggy that you bought in here, I don't think it's a problem to post in a thread something that's not old muscle or classic and I'd love to see it. I'm just guessing but I imagine it's something from Stuttgart?
My brother-in-law just got a new 911 Carrera in GT Silver he ordered that's a beauty, and another friend ordered a new 911 Turbo that he finally got and then sold it a month after for $100K more than he paid. That market is nuts. |

Yes it is, Mark. I found this 2018 and had to jump on it. It's an auto, unfortunately, but Kelly will probably be driving it the most and she hates the clutch.:3gears:
Attachment 224145 This should arrive right after the Shaguar. Now I just gotta build a bigger museum! Cheers Dave PS: future plans for the the Shag to come... |
That's a sweet Boxster, congrats.
Yeah, I think you're gonna need a bigger garage. |

It rolled off the trailer and right into the shop for a few much needed repairs. A once over on the car shows zero rust (an extreme rarity) and an overall clean car. Wiring? Totally different story but lights and gauges worked so that's all I could really ask for.
Attachment 224678 Attachment 224679 Attachment 224680 I decided to eyeball this Lucas thing. Looks normal to me. I don't understand all that funky stuff anyway, so I'll probably fly Mikey down to help. Attachment 224685 Ready removed the bonnet and do some metal work on the hinge area causing the fitment issues. That'll get mounted today. A new exhaust is coming too. Might have to throw a quick paint job on this in BRG or some other. Not a fan of the resale red. The original color is Willow Green. Attachment 224681 Attachment 224682 Attachment 224683 Attachment 224684 More to come! Cheers Dave |
Are you going to get the paintless dent guy over for that passenger side door ding? I was amazed at what they can do. Two weeks ago my son's Camaro got three divots completely removed. They were a similar size to what you have. And they were right on the sharp body lines. One on the quarter and one one each door. Without even getting behind the panels, the guy was able to get them all completely out by working the painted surface by using glued on tabs. It was well worth the $290. Simply an amazing talent.

Nah, no need to do that. If I get that area looking good it'll detract from all the other wornnesses the rest of the car has!
Couldn't stand myself, so the other morning I ripped the exhaust out and installed a nice new system. Wondering why it was sounding bad, I discovered the top of one muffler was basically a screen, and the other was connected to the head pipe with a Dr. Pepper can.:bs: Attachment 224982 Attachment 224983 Attachment 224984 Hood is all adjusted and latches now along with a great sounding exhaust. A few odds and ends to do, but other than that, it stays like this until the 507 is done! Yeah... Right:haha: Cheers Dave |
a Dr. Pepper can! Proposterous! It's a British car, sir! It should have been a Mr. Pibb can! My word, what type of hacks were permitted to work on that car?
|
Second most beautiful car ever! (69 Camaro is first).

Well, let's see. Sadly, I decided I better replace the goofy switch panel the previous owner installed at some point, with a correct one, Aaaaaaand then the interior, wiring, and dash came flying out.:hmmm: I'm not sure what exactly happened. Alls I know is an entire new wiring harness kit, correct switches, relays, and a bunch of other things are showing up next week.
Attachment 229783 Attachment 229784 Attachment 229785 Attachment 229786 Attachment 229787 Attachment 229788 Oh, you all know there's more to this than meets the eye. I think a new interior and color change may be in order too! :cool2: Cheers Dave |
Oh Lordy. I haven't seen all those Christmas light, toggle switches since my last visit to Radio Shack in 1979!
|
Looks like a good idea

Yep, I’ve seen that rabbit before, Lee!
I’ll should throw it all back together before I get to far along. Nah…not the SuperDave way! Cheers Dave |
Holy Crap, Dave, what about the BMW. I can't multitask, so I'm losing my mind following your projects. I have brakes to redo on one '67 and I'm awake at night thinking about that.
|
----I might just be in the minority but I love the original color! My father bought a 65 XKE roadster new in England and had it shipped himself. He wanted one, but was always a tad cheap. My brother still has it (he got it thru the will) and although we don't communicate I believe it probably still has less than 20,000 original miles. These Jags are just so cool in some of the rarer colors. His was Primrose Yellow....Bill S

This is a true story, I ran a repair business from my home garage in the 70's. No internet or "google" to look up help. More than once, I would finally get tired of trying things and would go to bed and wake up at 1-3 am with a new idea and go out in the garage and do that and many times it worked. |
Oh, don't fret Tim! Work continues on the 507 despite this tangential deviation! A few hours here, a few hours there, and apparently I've also been tasked with building a "mini-horse" trailer next month too. Anything else?:hmmm: Next up on the 507 is top frame final fitment and I need to get it back out to spray the high build primer on it. Door shell inner structure will follow after that.
Nice to meet you too, Bill, and you too other Bill! The Willow green (original color) is a little soupy colored for my liking. Cheers Dave |

‘Tis not a bad color, Sir Dave. Please reconsider.

Happy to report that after a month the wiring is complete!
What a nightmare. But, pretty much everything electrical is new which solves pretty much all the problems I was having. I’ll send the old rocker switches over to NJSteve since i know this year’s Christmas lights extravaganza may need some individual control:eek2: and these 1amp flimsy rocker switches are just the ticket to a fun-filled light show….in not so many ways:scholar::tongue: Attachment 232077 Attachment 232078 Now I have a stock looking panel again and Lucas, the English Prince of Darkness Electrical Demon, is safely tucked into new wiring so he should be contained until the next victim, er, owner, gets the car! I also replaced the transmission fluid with Redline MT-90 which is what the Jag guys swear by, apparently, so smoother shifts. In final fluid flushing fortitude, I replaced the canister oil filter with a spin on adapter. Just a few minor things to redo (carpet, button the interior back up) and I’ll be back on the road. That’s enough Jag right now. Time to get back on the 507!!!! Cheers Dave |
