Excitement in Iowa

1 Attachment(s)
Hello. My name is Andy Snetselaar and I am the caretaker of the Albaugh Chevrolet Collection in Ankeny Iowa. It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that we are able to make the following announcement.
After some serious discussions and negotiations the Albaugh Classic Chevrolet Collection is pleased to announce that the Hugger Orange ZL1 #16 purchased new from Fred Gibb Chevrolet by the infamous Mr. Ken Barnhart is coming to Iowa. He has graciously allowed us to become the new caretakers of his pride and joy. We will do our best to preserve the legend that is .... Ken Barnhart and ZL1 # 16. The car will remain as is and will be taken to the occasional shows.
Thank you Ken.

Ken is a true pioneer as a racer, owner and fellow hobbyist. He always has a smile and a great story to tell. This is a very special car and with Ken’s blessing you became the new caretakers. Congratulations to all involved. This hasn’t quite sunk-in… Ken is "somethin' else"

RPOLS3 10-20-2022 12:40 PM

Wow - just wow. Congratulations to all.

dykstra 10-20-2022 12:45 PM

Charley Lillard 10-20-2022 01:14 PM

What great news, glad to hear it's going to be looked after so lovingly.
Is his orange 2002 ZL-1 going there too?

MosportGreen66 10-20-2022 02:50 PM

Wow, I can't believe he sold it. Congrats to all parties!

JoeC 10-20-2022 03:29 PM

Ken and his ZL-1 is one of the best Camaro stories ever

61 vert 10-20-2022 03:43 PM

Yes. The 2002 and the hauler.

Bill Pritchard 10-20-2022 06:11 PM

That is exciting, congrats to all!

Many don't realize that Ken went up against some of the biggest names and teams of the day and Won, as a privateer!

JRSully 10-20-2022 09:49 PM

Great Story. Charlie's stat is right on. When the "Originals" are gone, their gone, time waits for nobody. Spend time with them..

The more great cars in Iowa all the better! :beers:

Hauler

Would be very cool to clone the orange 66 Chevy truck hauler as a stablemate ( unless the original truck could be found and restored , would be even better ) . Seems like I recall picture of truck car was picked up on at Gibb , wasn’t it a grain truck / stake bed or something to that effect ? Or was it the orange hauler used to pick car up when new ?

61 vert 10-21-2022 01:14 AM

Ken still has that hauler and it is also coming with the car.

My first time to MCACN was in 2017. I was lucky enough to be staring in awe at MR. Barnhart’s and he noticed so he waved me over the ropes to where he was sitting and personally shared his history/story with the car…. It sure was ‘somethin special’ it was one of the highlights of the trip!! It is probably one of the greatest Camaros of all time given the car, the history, and the ownership!

one of the most "super" of all SUPERCARS!!! Congrats - glad that it found a great home :-)

History

I would love to here a yearly recap of events and upgrades the Camaro has been through.

Great outcome for both parties.

Thanks,
Marty

Wow,real cool!

turbo69bird 12-01-2022 04:47 PM

Love this car and I know how it is now , is part of its history but I’d sure like to see it wearing cragars/ Stahl 7.10 up front and some cragars and slicks out back again.

Too Many Projects 12-01-2022 05:55 PM

I talked with him at MCACN about selling it and he seemed at peace with his decision, at least for now... He said he hopes he doesn't regret it later on. Brought it home April 18th, 1969...53 years together.

Someone else may legally own the car - but it will always be Ken's.

ANDY M 12-01-2022 07:47 PM

Andy, are you planning on bringing Ken's car to the SCR next year? It would be really cool to see it go down the track again, even if its you driving it.
Ken always had a grin like a little kid coming back to the pits.

I Agree 100%

It was nice to see the ZL1 and Ken in Rosemont. Will the front tires stay on the ground under new ownership?
