Possible 1969 L-88 Motor

Not connected to the sale at all, just wanted to get it out to the community in case anyone knows the car owner. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...2111112l%22%7D

Probably a reason he doesn't show the engine pad stamping ?

That could be, just found it interesting that he indicated he had tracked the car down at one point.

There is a phone number from the 1984 ad.
901-365-2767. Might be in the newspaper archive seeing that the car had fresh paint interior and new soft top. Was probably advertised more than this one ad.

Here's a picture of the block stamp. A friend WAS contemplating the purchase. His NCRS connections told him the VIN is for a March 69 build date car, but the block is stamped November 68. He's a hard pass on it.

Thanks John for the additional info. Any time I come across something like this ad, I pass it along on the off chance that someone knows the car, etc. and the possibility of reuniting a car and its original motor. This group always seems to be able to track things down and provide additional info!

The '69 L78 chevelle with born with engine was cast in march with a late June assembly on the engine.

A spread like that may not be the kiss of death for an L88. It may have sat around for a few months.

Heck, my April '92 Pete had a November '89 3406B Cat engine in it... from the factory with the VIN stamp on it...

He may regret that. I have seen a few original engine L88s that have a wider gap than this. Not saying that it is absolutely original but I do think it warrants further investigation.

Ncrs allows 6 months prior to vin date

He probably would have still bought it if the VIN stamped on the block matched the VIN attached to the body.
