I want to but a new GM ZL1 block
 

I'd like to buy a new ZL1 block but I'm very interested in hearing from somebody that has one that might give me some info on it and or their opinions. What combo they used & final ci etc ...thanks Mike

Stefano and ssl78 have both driven a car with the new zl1 block. They were very impressed to say the least. I too would like to build one. Here is a link, Mike.

I got to see COPO Pete's new ZL-1 block when he tore his engine apart for the "Certified Stock" inspection at the Pure Stock Drags. Looked very nice, and meatier than the original. He said it was a lot better unit than the original also. Oh Petey....!

They are pretty sweet looking that i will say I have some pics of the one in a Chevelle here in hawaii onl my web page. There was a 67 502 Camaro and the Chevelle both running together and you could only hear the ZL-1 engine

My aluminum 427 does sound much different than my aluminum head, cast iron block 427 motor and they are pretty close in build, however I would like to build a new block ZL1 and not be afraid to break it! I have gone 11:45 et @ 118 mph in my Fathom green 69 Camaro 10 years ago when they asked me to leave the race track, due to no roll bar. I would like to build a 12-1 NEW ZL1 motor, not sure what crank I would use or stroke but build a weekend basher. I love horse power and fast cars, my latest is a blown alky 63 Vet race car!! I have heard that the new ZL1 block is built better than the original. Anyone have a view on this? I would've figured it'd be the other way around.

I can only comment on my 69 block that when I got it home and inspected it I found the main caps had no dowel pins and the new block has as well as splayed caps of a harder material with a logo on the main caps, the aluminum used is a superior grade and harder alloy. Has any one built this block with a 4.375 crank? just curious as to how much clearance is needed in the block to clear this steel rotating assembly.

I have a 69 Camaro which has a Zl-1 transplant. This is the most awesome car I have ever owned. The engine is the new block it has original heads, intake, and carb. It has a solid lifter roller cam. This summer were I live we had a very warm summer and I did alot of cruising with it and it never went over 180 degrees, unlike most iron big blocks I have owned. The sound is awesome the power is awesom and I am not afraid to drive it hard. The trans is a doug nash five speed and compliments the motor very well. Its the kind of car you never want to sell but you know how that goes here today gone tomorrow when something cooler comes along. My advice to anybody after owning this car and knowing it will probably cost 15k to build the motor is its worth every penny.
