Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
These pics are of a 55 Chevy that my father built & owned from 1967-1969. I know that some members like the tri fives.

Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Frank, Frank, you are killin me with the nostolgic stuff! Chrome reverse, tach on the dash, Cal Custom steering wheel, teardrop scoop, jacked in the front for weight transfer, where is the fenderwell headers? I am going to put a Beach Boys eight track in! Get Around, Get Around, I Get Around! Got one in the garage very similar to this day! The roots of our hobby!
Thanks Frank! Motown |
Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Cool shots Frank. Got a candy red 55 in my garage too. 502, blown(underhood B&M). Has gone 11.0's @130 on street tires, through the muffs. That car still gets most the looks when it's out!

Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Guys I just love a nice nostalgic 55! A lot of you guys probably started out with a tri five like that. My father told me that when he started driving in the mid 60's a lot of the muscle cars that we love today were not as hot as hot back then. They were just every day cars. He said the real hot rods were the tri fives. They were cheap to pick up and you could do a ton of things to them. He told me that the 55 shown in the pictures cost him $200.00 for the initial car but cost another $2500.00 to build over a couple of years. Man, he could have bought a new car for that price!
The Sun Tach with the garter is cool. I do the same thing to my car now! If you look at the pic with the view of the interior in B&W from the driver side you can see a little Playboy bunny sticker on the vent window. Man those must have been the days. I bet my dad can still hear the Mowtown playing on the radio when he used to cruise the streets of Chicago when he looks at these pictures! BTW Whitetop what kind of wheels are on the 55 in the first pic? I have a Keystone Wheels Catalog from 1967 and they look just like Keystone Kustomflite wheels. He told me that after these pics were taken he bought a brand new set of Keystone Astro mags. What did Astro's look like? |
Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Frank
I've seen ads for Astro wheels. What do they look like? In the early '60's a company was making chrome 5 spokes called Astro Supremes, somewhat similar to a Cragar. I think it was Keystone who made the Astro wheels your refering to. They were an inexpensive chrome slot wheel just like on the '55 your dad's friend had. The local Nationwise Auto Parts had them for something like $12.99 each up into the mid '70's. They were real popular from say '67-'68 up to '70 or so. Dave |

Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Man, whitetop you do know your day 2 stuff! after posting that question about the Astro's I asked my father again and he said that his buddy who's 55 is shown in the last pic posted by me had Keystone Astro's as well.

Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Just because I just love how everybody is posting all of their vintage pics I will post another one although not a Chevy it is still GM. This is my dads friends 68 442 that his parents bought for him brand new for a high school graduation present. The car was yellow, red wheel wells, with red line tires.

Belair62,
You should wear a longer skirt if you don't want people to know what you do with the extras. |

Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
This is no car pic but is a funny one. Remember that this what the people looked like back then when they were driving our cars! Picture was taken January 1974. My father is the one on the left that looks like a mix between Shaft & Denny Terrio.

Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
Rick no BS the brand name of those shoes were Big Motha's. That is actually what the company that made them called them!
Here is a cool pic that I said that I would post for Bill Pritchard. I'm on the left (about 50 lbs. ago :-( ) with my brother and a friend standing next to my brand new 70 Hugger Orange Nova. 307 with floor mounted 3 speed. The dual stripe whitewalls and rally wheels lasted about one week before being replaced by Keystone mag wheels. The OEM exhaust went about a week after that, replaced by duals with glasspacks. I had the car only 5 months - too slow. When all your friends are driving muscle cars, a 307 and 3 speed doesn't cut it. It was replaced by a 69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 with 4 speed. Re: Cool Day 2 55 Chevy Pics
I am happy to say I was, less than a month old when couch pic was taken. I say happy cuz I didn't have to see that style for very long. But I did have to see my dad with a perm in the late 70's. That was enough for me.
