Re: My 69 L89 conv,

ok i live in Rhode Island now the car came from Vic Farrah Chevrolet in Meadville PA it still has the old dealer decal on the bumper, i have talked to the dealer several times years back, and the car has a colorful past (Chevrolets internal demos/test mules).i have known of the car and owner since 1974 then one day in 1982 i bought a camaro site unseen and i was suprised when i went to pick it up and the rest is history.

$6K was a fair bit of coin, (even for a car like this) in 1977, wasn't it?

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

that is stiff money at that time i was buying the trade in SS Chevelles and Camaros on the back lots of the local chevy dealer for about 250 to 600 bucks back then because of the gas crisis you couldn't give a big block away at that time.

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

So is the car a real JL8 4 wheel disc brake car or a heavy duty service package rear disc car? I would definitely think that an L89 JL8 RS/SS conv is probably as desirable as the 68 Z28 conv. The ultimate in my mind would still be a ZL1 with JL8 4 wheel discs like the engineering car.

COPOL89 09-16-2003 03:07 AM

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

well i should have finished the paragraph on my web page the disc brakes were added by me last year they are jl8 flavor it took me 8 years to come to the decision to add them to my car, my oldest son talked me into it he is in the pro touring scene, He said i was stuck in 1969 because i didn't want to remove the XT rims and dog dish caps- Dennis.

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

Instead of your son bringing you to the present from 1969, perhaps you should knock your son from the present back to 1969 - you gotta keep your roots!.....

Love to see that WS. You weren't supposed to be able to order the V01 HD rad on a BB.

Finally a dealer from my neck of the woods.
Never heard of Vic Farrah getting other GM test / fleet vehicles.
Still have the 73 Vette brochure I got from them.

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

I do know of an L89 JL8 hardtop. I have not seen any paperwork on the car, but from conversations with the owner it appears to be legit and no, he has no intentions of ever selling it. When you start combining options like the L89, RS/SS, conv, JL8, Pace Car, they all are very rare and desirable, and I would imagine quite expensive back in 69.

COPOL89 09-16-2003 05:57 PM

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

From what Vic (Vic Farrah) had told me he had a inside line on all test mules and fleet cars he also told me of the chevy brass sending him to meadville in 1960 with the chairman of the boards ( Ed Cole) 348 tripower 59 impala demo, which as of the early 90s the car still resided in meadville-Dennis.

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

the L89 Camaros were pretty rare but they werent uncommon to me i grew up an army brat and the one thing the GIs were into was muscle cars i was in virgina in 1970 and my father me and a salesman took a Lemans blue 69 yenko camaro for a thrill ride from colonial chevrolet i will never forget it the smell the sound and the feel of that car, he retired from the army in 73 and we moved back to western PA we use to call it hot rod valley, there were a lot of muscle cars in that area things like chevy big blocks were common except the Zl-1s i do not remember any in that area, maybe in the cleavend area-Dennis.

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

I'm from Fishertown, PA.. born and lived there 21 years of my life. Fishertown is the little dot right in the middle of the invisible triangle of Altoona, Johnstown and Bedford. Is that anywhere close? I've heard of Titusville.. Can't remember where its at though.

the invisible altoona triangle i have been through there many times but i was so tired from driving all night i have a memory loss of ever being there, well if you would drop a line from Erie to Pittsburg the Meadville/Titusville area is in the middle-Dennis.

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

Kurt: do you remember Patterson auto salavage? He always got the good stuff i can remember 2 rows of lightly hit SS Chevelles and Camaros back in 78-80. My brother and I had a Camaro part/restoration buisness in segartown just off I-79 back in the mid 80s but it burnt down we lost a lot of super rare stuff-a 57 Corvette-60,000 mile 69 Z/28 and a 67 SS 350 conv Camaro i had a L88 427 that the intake melted into the block it was a sad day . we were just free lance collectors and my good friend yogi from bairs corvettes in Linesville talked us into starting our own shop. after the fire i moved to RI and the rest is history

Re: My 69 L89 conv,

I know Jim. He still does a big business (lot of it out of state), huge yard nowdays, twice what it was.
I was just too young to really remember what was in there back when the good stuff was there, though I was in there pretty regularly about the time you were.
I do remember a 67 427 Vette they had about 79-80 that had been repo'd. In primer and engine apart, $3500. No way could I pull that one off!

Bummer on the fire.
