Remember the good ol' days when people knew what they wanted for a part and put a price on it? Ebay sure has created a great deal of indecision...or is it greed?

Re: 9 F 17 1100837 alternator for sale

Webester says Greed= excessive desire for wealth
Wealth=much money or property;riches
I think that is a fair decription of most of us as well as myself. While I do wish to become wealthy I do not wish to or expect to achieve it by selling this one item. All I expect is whats it's worth and I do not know so I am accepting offers.I already have one offer anyone else care to own it?
P.S. Greed was around long before Ebay and while Ebay has made some wealthy or put others just that much closer it also may have broke a few or close to it! Just my .02 worth

DS: Fair enough. My comment about ebay is really more of a general observation than one directed at you. For those of us who were buying parts like this before ebay ever existed (I'm not suggesting that you weren't), the transactions usually started with an asking price from the seller and then an offer from the buyer. Today, fewer people are "asking"; instead, they are "accepting offers or it goes on ebay". Coincidentally, there is an ad on Team Camaro right now for an 837 alt. This fellow put a price of $600 on it and then follows with "last chance before I put it on ebay". Sort of sounds like a threat??? I guess I just prefer the old way of doing things. Good luck with the sale of your alt

Having the opportunity to buy an item prior to it being on ebay is a good thing,no?? Saying an item will be put on ebay if not sold is a sales pitch at worst, and a heads up at best.

How much did you buy it for?

Thanks,

Re: 9 F 17 1100837 alternator for sale

I agree Yountto, I'd rather have a chance to buy an item before it hits ebay...I just prefer some one to tell me how much they want for an item (like you have been doing recently) rather than making offers. I guess it's just a personal preference in how I like to do business - I always price my parts/cars. It's like an old timer said to my buddy once..."I have enough trouble pricing my own parts...I don't price other peoples" To each his own I guess

Re: 9 F 17 1100837 alternator for sale

Now im a little confused, are you guys with me or bashing me.I started out this post buy simpley listing the item I had for sale and all I asked for was a resonable offer!!!! Then when someone asked me whats the least I would take for it although a fair and appreciated question,I didnt have a dollor amount in mind. Then I simpley mentioned ebay as my next alternative if it didnt sell here, and at that point I didnt even have an offer and I also hadnt put a price on it.
Then someone ask's how much I paid for it,well I inherited it from my dad and what the heck does that have to do with what it's worth anyway,,, that was a totally irrelevant question in my opinion. What I or anybody else pays for any given item makes it worth no more or less than what its truely worth.Im guessing my dad paid about $10 for it in 1975 so whats that make it worth today?
Why are there people on this board that try to make a moutain out of a mole hill. Im not some smart ass sticking my nose where it dont belong I just simpley had an item that I would part with that I though some of you guys could put to good use on a car you bought 20 years ago for $5000 that is worth $85,000 today!!! Tommie Im sorry,,,,,, after the earlier responce I decided to just say heck with it,,, sold. Some people have to ruin it for others by seeing if they can stir something up.Well they did,it worked, next time i'll list it on ebay enter a stupid high reserve ,and get twice what I would have accepted from the good guys on here.
There are people on this board that need to grow up and think twice before they hit the contine button after typing their post.I am not pointing any fingers but I have been reading this board daily for about a year and some of the petty stuff that gets brought up and argued about is so unlike the typical people I would picture as owning or even having serious interest super cars. The end !

Re: 9 F 17 1100837 alternator for sale

Gentlemen....

When you make a post to sell something, you give a selling price. It's a simple little thing. If you don't know what to sell it for, ask something in a forum. Nobody can guess what a person would like to sell something for. So...they have to ask questions and try and figure out what a seller might want to sell it for to make a "reasonable" offer. The condition of the part makes a difference too. Would you have gotten upset if I would have asked that too...? Probably so, I'm afraid. I am not sorry I have asked these questions. They are simple and should've been stated in the first post so buyers can be sure they have ALL the necessary info to make a good judgement when buy a big ticket item.

DSYenko,

If you wanted to be a nice guy and sell this to a person "only" interested in it being used on his car, then I think you may have made the wrong decision by selling it to a re-seller. Mind you, nothing wrong with that.

Here's a little something I thought you'd enjoy to help ease tension:

A bus carrying only ugly people crashes into an oncoming truck, and
everyone inside dies. They then get to meet their maker, and because
of the grief they have experienced; he decides to grant them one wish
each, before they enter Paradise.
They're all lined up, and God asks the first one what the wish is. "I want
to be gorgeous," and so God snaps His fingers, and it is done. The
second one in line hears this and says "I want to be gorgeous too." Another
snap of His fingers and the wish is granted. This goes on for a while but
when God is halfway down the line, the last guy in line starts laughing.
When there are only ten people left, this guy is rolling on the floor,
laughing his ass off. Finally, God reaches this guy and asks him what
his wish will be. The guy calms down and says: "Make 'em all ugly again".

Al

Re: 9 F 17 1100837 alternator for sale

The reason i was sold the alternator is because i made a FAIR market value offer and didnt try to steal it or see how cheap i could get it,dsyenko made it available to EVERYONE on this site for 3 days before selling it to me.You cant expect dsyenko to lose money to make someone happy..."nice guys" do sell to vendors too...

I can understand you trying to explain why you were sold this item, but I don't think you or the seller have to defend your actions to anyone, everything was above board.--JoeG

Re: 9 F 17 1100837 alternator for sale

Holy mackerel.... Now I'm being acused of trying to "steal" something. Chuck, I was thinking of buying something from you, but you have made my mind up for me. Thank you for your help. I don't think DSYenko was losing any time or sleep over this matter. I'm glad that he was able to sell it to someone. I wish it were to me for a "reasonable" price unlike a "fair"(inflated) market value. I, on the other hand, had no intensions of selling it for a profit. "I" planned on using it on my own vehicle. Which, by the way, will be passed on to my children and "not" sold for profit. I think there may be some hidden personal issues here that are beyond the scope of this forum that a few may wish to look into. Please seek the help. If not for you, for those around you. I am truely sorry if I have offened anyone on this forum with this jitterish and tried to make it up with a friendly gesture of a joke. I've always thought this site to be quite professional in all matters. I guess some may not see this. I am still not sorry for those questions. They are perfectly valid questions, considering not knowing the price "up front" and the response I received. Please enjoy life Chuck, it is just too short.

Sincerely,
Al
