1969 COPO Chevelle Question
Can someone lend assistance as to how I can determine a 1969 COPO Chevelle from a regular Super Sport. Does the Cowl Tag reveal any relevent information?
Sorry, if questions sound stupid; however, not familar with COPO vehicles. Cowl Tag as follows: ST69 13637 BAL 161444 TR 795 65 E PNT 11D B L074899 Thanks, Steve |
Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
Do you have a Vin # handy?

Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
Vin# 136379B326463
Thanks, Steve |
Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
The VIN looks to be pretty early. Check with the COPO Connection website for the list of known VINS. Most of the COPO Chevelles were built pretty late in the production run. Ours was near the end of July. Yenkos could be considerably earlier.

Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
have you found somthing on the car that leads you to believe it is a 427 COPO Chevelle?
|
Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
Joe,
I was advised the car has a 427/425 motor which supposedly is matching number. Also, I was told it came from the factory with a 4.10 gear. Going to inspect the car this week. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve |
Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
The COPO cars came with an KQ code rearend. The 396 cars came with a KK 4:10 rearend. The engine would be coded MP for an automatic and MQ for a four speed application.

Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
What is the casting Date on the rearend housing of that Chevelles KK rearend?

Re: 1969 COPO Chevelle Question
Just a quick heads-up on this car...
After several failed attempts on Ebay, the owner is now shopping this car around as a "matching numbers" COPO Chevelle, complete with original KQ rear, and possibly a new trim tag...according to those looking at the car last year, it was a 396 car with a KK rear with a '70 454 in it and an 11D build date. There's a LOT more to this story than I care to get into, but if you're bored, here's some more info: Team Chevelle thread 1 - Team Chevelle Thread 2 |
